TM Game News: A Temporary "Movie News" Takeover

- by Ninja Ross, 20 May 2013

Steve Garcia is currently... Indisposed... He’s busy with the many things he does to make you, his loyal readers, happy. He does, however, send his love and- No, Steve! No! Eat your human flesh and behave or it gets the hose again! Now look what you made me do, I’m typing what I shout! Instead you have me. I apologise for that. But here is some gaming news to shake things up a bit!

Final Fantasy VIII getting High Resolution PC Release:

Square Enix are working on a PC release for Final Fantasy VIII, fixing some of the graphic problems that came with the Playstation era release. Release Date TBA.

  • Ross Says: Meh. I say meh. Final Fantasy is a bit of a hit and miss series, in terms of game quality. This isn’t a terrible thing, since it’s due to them trying new things with the gameplay, but this one was one of the misses. It’s not a bad game, compared to some in the series, but it’s not the best. But, with any luck, there could be some fixes to the gameplay and levelling system.

Nintendo and Sega get together for a Sonic exclusive:

Nintendo and Sega have struck a deal to release three Sonic games on Nintendo’s major platforms. The first two are Sonic: Lost World and Mario and Sonic at the Sochi Olympic Games and an unannounced title.

  • Ross Says: What? I gotta stop messing with the space time continuum...  It’s not a terrible thing, I suppose since Sonic titles have been available on Nintendo consoles before but to make it an exclusive would, perhaps, alienate some fans, just like when Ubisoft originally made the new Rayman an Exclusive (they changed their minds, of course). It would be nice to see a proper Mario/Sonic game, though. Mostly to see if it makes the two characters interesting again. To be honest, Exclusives always seemed silly to me. But this could help keep the Wii U afloat, after a bad start.

Assassin’s Creed movie gets a release date:

Ubisoft have released the release date for the Assassin’s Creed movie:  May 22nd 2013.

  • Ross Says: I’m not a big fan of the franchise. In fact, I think it’s average at best! But a movie is something I’m looking forward to, just to see what parts of the games they use, who’s going to play who and how well they do the stunts. It could be fantastic. It could also be terrible, of course. We’re yet to see a video game movie that is any better than OK, so maybe this could be video games' "Iron Man".

Nintendo claim ownership of lots of YouTube videos:

Nintendo have suddenly claimed ownership of many fan made videos, meaning that the creator of the video gets no money from ad revenue.

  • Ross Says: Oh, Nintendo. Just as the Wii U begins to fail you decide to lose your cool. Let’s Play videos and other fan made videos are free advertisement, Nintendo! What are you doing? Besides that, the people who made the videos will most likely not buy your games as much! And you want the Wii U to succeed? Madness! Nintendo! Come on!

VP Joe Biden: “No legal reason” for game makers to not be taxed extra for violent content:

VP Joe Biden has allegedly claimed that creators of violent games can be taxed for their violent content.

  • Ross Says: We should remember that this is all word of mouth but there is no reason anyone would lie about this. If he DID say video games can and should be taxed, he’s not very good at his job. Taxing these games is, essentially, like taxing free speech. There’s nothing more to it than that. It looks like the guy is simply trying to secure votes from the anti gamer groups.

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

"Tangiers" Trailer:

A blend of stealth and exploration with plenty of surreal craziness.

Teaser for "Batman: Arkham Origins":

A game that’s attracting both positive and negative responses, due to change of developer and lack of Kevin Conroy.

Calling out the boss can work:

An anonymous Hawken developer grew tired of seeing a picture of a half naked woman posted in the office and, when her boss refused to take it down, she got a fellow artistic employee to draw this:

Instead of firing her, the boss treated them both to lunch and admitted to his wrong doing, putting the pictures up side by side in the office.

Detroit’s Robocop statue is nearly done:

That's quite a statue! And that concludes Ninja Ross' Game News! Did you enjoy the fill-in? What news are you excited about the most?
