TM Movie News: Beetlejuice, Star Wars, Superman and more!

- by Steve Garcia, 21 October 2013

Big week for Movie News, my lovely little Trash Muties! Has the Human Torch been officially cast? Is there an upcoming Beetlejuice film on the horizon? Is Fifty Shades of Grey in trouble? What will the new Star Wars be called? Who is Ant-Man?! Read on, my pretties!

Picture

Ant-Man:

  • Just when you forgot this movie was being made, it appears that Marvel is now closer than ever to finding their Ant-Man. Reports were claiming that both Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Paul Rudd were both in the running to don the pint-sized helmet. After the story broke out, however, Levitt denied any involvement with Marvel Studios, so all eyes are now on Rudd. If Paul Rudd is going to be our Ant-Man, there won’t be any arguments from me. Rudd is just the right age and will bring just the right amount of humor that Ant-Man needs.

  • But what of Ant-Man’s longtime wife/ex-wife/girlfriend/sidekick/it’s complicated partner Janet Van Dyne aka the Wasp? Apparently Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation) has been rumored to be in the running, and that’s totally ok. So is it going to be Rudd and Rashida? We’ll wait for Marvel to bring us the good word.

Beetlejuice:

  • Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice! BEETLEJUICE! According to reliable sources, Tim Burton is looking to come back to his beloved Beetlejuice with an all-new sequel! Burton is currently attached to direct another film, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and almost dropped out of it entirely. But now, after a schedule shift, it appears that he will be doing both films simultaneously. Now the real question (if this is all legitimate of course) is if whether or not Michael Keaton is coming back with him. He better. That was like, his greatest performance of all time. Maybe if you say his name enough we’ll summon him! MichaelKeaton. MichaelKeaton! MICHAELKEATON!

Fantastic Four Reboot:

  • As the script is being re-written for the Fantastic Four reboot, a bunch of casting rumors have just hit the web! While nothing is set in stone as of yet, here are our top contenders for Mr. Fantastic: Kit Harington (Game of Thrones), Jack O’Connell (Skins) and Miles Teller (The Spectacular Now). Next is the call for the Invisible Woman with Saoirse Ronan (The Host) and Kate Mara (House of Cards) as the main contenders. Personally, I’d love Kit Harington and Kate Mara for those two, but after them, it seems like the rest of the cast could go either way. Ever since Josh Trank has been attached to direct, the rumors of Michael B. Jordan (Chronicle) taking up the part for Human Torch have just been getting stronger and stronger. Make of that info what you will, but Terry Crews (White Chicks, The Expendables) is apparently interested in portraying the Thing and that would be the coolest thing of all time! Forget the reboot; give me a trilogy of Crews punching things as a giant rock monster! IT’S CLOBBERIN’ TIME!

Fifty Shades of Grey:

  • Is there trouble in the paradise that is Fifty Shades of Grey? Maybe for actor Charlie Hunnam, because he was dropped from the lead role in the… *sigh* …widely anticipated adaptation. According to Yahoo: “The filmmakers of Fifty Shades of Grey and Charlie Hunnam have agreed to find another male lead given Hunnam’s immersive TV schedule which is not allowing him time to adequately prepare for the role of Christian Grey.” Very, very interesting… But I don’t buy it. Whether you like it or not, people are looking very forward to this movie, and the actor knew what he was getting into the second he auditioned. My two cents? The total internet backlash (seriously, there were petitions with lots of signatures) against Hunnam scared the studio into recasting the role. Of course that’s a pretty terrible thing to happen to the actor, sometimes that’s just how the business works. But hey, Ben Affleck is still Batman, so not everything is dictated by the internet trolls!

Jurassic World:

  • The next installment of the Jurassic Park franchise is looking better and better, as Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) is in talks to star! Not only that, but other actors involved with this film include Bryce Dallas Howard (The Help) and Ty Simpkins (Iron Man 3) and they’re fantastic! Jurassic World is set to start filming early next year for a summer 2015 release. Rejoice!

Martin Luther King Jr. Biopic:

  • Oliver Stone (JFK, Nixon, W.) is set to direct yet another biopic staring Jamie Foxx as Martin Luther King Jr. All I can say is that it’s about time the Civil Rights leader gets this kind of treatment, because Stone is the best of the best when it comes to the genre, and Foxx has proved time and time again that he was born to act. Also, with Stephen Spielberg producing, this has Oscar written all over it. Looking forward to it!

Star Wars: Episode VII:

  • A New Hope. The Empire Strikes Back. Return of the Jedi. Star Wars always had the coolest titles, and as the saga continues, the titles continue! According to rumors, working titles for Episode VII include Return of the Sith and Rise of the Jedi and those are pretty damn cool. While it may not be huge news, I just want to remind you that Episode VII is upon us! Moving on!

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Man of Steel Sequel:

  • Filming has officially begun for the Batman/Superman movie! On Saturday, October 19, a scene was shot at the East Los Angeles College Campus. It looks like Gotham and Metropolis first go head to head in a college football game, because we have pictures and a video to prove it! It’s happening! LOOK AT IT!

75 Years of Superman:

  • Bruce Timm, the guy responsible for every DC animated thing you love, nails it yet again in this beautiful short that reflects the 75 years of Superman. LOOK AT IT!

The Grand Budapest Hotel

  • Wes Anderson is at it again, and this looks pretty damn good! Ralph Fiennes! Willem Dafoe! Bill Murray! Adrian Brody! Everyone ever! LOOK AT IT!

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty:

  • A new trailer for that movie based on a really short story that was really good! LOOK AT IT!

And that’s all I wrote! What are your thoughts on Paul Rudd as Ant-Man? Are you ready to run from dinosaurs with Josh Brolin? Who do you like for the Fantastic Four reboot? What do you think of that Grand Budapest Hotel trailer? And most importantly: BEETLEJUICE!? That’ll do it for this week, righteous readers. Be good to one another!
