TM Movie News: Civil War. Fraggles. Tyson & Deadpool.

- by Steve Garcia, 23 March 2015

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! The Civil War begins! The Fraggles rise! Judge Dredd is dead! Weirdest headline of all time? Not for us! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Picture

Captain America: Civil War:

  • An official synopsis has arrived! Check out what’s in store for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in the wake of Avengers: Age of Ultron:
  • “Following the events of Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers, causing two factions to side with Iron Man or Captain America, which causes an epic battle between former allies.”
  • Funny how they mention “the collective governments of the world.” That is likely the key to Black Panther’s involvement, seeing as how he’s the leader of an all-powerful nation and such. Don’t forget that this also might be the first film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to feature the all-new, Spectacular Spider-Man! Filming for Captain America: Civil War begins in April, and the film is slated for May 6, 2016.Whose side are you on?!

Deadpool:

  • Deadpool has begun filming! With production now in full swing, character names have also begun to crawl out of the woodwork, as Morena Baccarin (Dollhouse) and T.J. Miller (Big Hero 6) have revealed their roles as Copycat and Weasel, respectively. Copycat is a shape-shifting mutant similar to X-Men’s Mystique, and Weasel is Deadpool’s hacker sidekick. Check out some posts from Miller and Deadpool himself, Ryan Reynolds:

  • Deadpool is coming to a theater near you on February 12, 2016!

Dredd 2:

  • In sadder news, it looks like Judge Dredd is dead. In a recent interview with Collider, Dredd screenwriter Alex Garland was adamantly pessimistic about the future of a sequel. His quote:
  • “…keep your money, because the people who make the decisions don’t get moved by that kind of thing. They’re moved by other stuff, other equations, other algorithms.”
  • Well that sucks. 2012’s Dredd was a masterpiece of action sequences and beautiful CGI with a top-notch performance from Karl Urban as Judge Dredd. If you can get a hold of it, I highly, highly recommend it!

Fraggle Rock:

  • In one of the strangest, but awesome career moves of all time, Joseph Gordon-Levitt announced that he will be both producing and starring in the upcoming Fraggle Rock movie! Fraggle Rock was a show featuring a society of cave-dwelling muppets called Fraggles. They had many adventures as they dealt with a variety of threats including the Doozers and the giant Gorgs. Here’s Levitt’s official statement:
  • “The first screen personas I ever loved were Henson creations, first on ‘Sesame Street,’ and then on ‘Fraggle Rock. Jim Henson’s characters make you laugh and sing, but they’re also layered, surprising, and wise. From Oscar the Grouch, to Yoda, to the Fraggles. I’ve never stopped loving his work, even as a young frisky man, and on into adulthood. Collaborating with Lisa Henson makes me confident we can do something that Jim would have loved. I’m grateful and excited to be working with New Regency on this project.”
  • It makes a ton of sense that the Fraggles finally get their time to shine again after the Muppets made their big screen comeback I can’t wait! Dance your cares away! *clap, clap* Worry for another day! Let the music play! *clap, clap* Down in Fraggle Rock!

Mike Tyson Biopic:

  • Oscar winning actor Jamie Foxx will be teaming up with Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese to give us a Mike Tyson biopic. Wait, what?! Here’s Foxx’s quote:
  • “I just went in with Paramount with Mike Tyson. So I’m going to do the Mike Tyson story. Listen, to be in the same room pitching Mike Tyson to Paramount, Mike Tyson is on one side, I’m on the other side and doing Mike Tyson at the same time. And Martin Scorsese at the helm. This will be the first boxing movie that Martin Scorsese has done since Raging Bull.”
  • Everything about this just works! Oscars everywhere!

Popeye:

  • Modern day animating legend Genndy Tartakovsky has unfortunately abandoned ship on Sony’s upcoming Popeye film. In a recent interview with Moviefone, he stated “I was in love with what we were doing, but I think the studio is going through changes and I don’t know if they want to make the ‘Popeye’ that I want to make.” As sad as that is, he also added that he will now be focusing on an original project entitled Can You Imagine? Last year, Sony released test footage of what his Popeye could have been, which you can check out below:

Shazam:

  • Is Black Adam joining the Justice League? In a recent interview with IGN, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson teased the possibility of Captain Marvel’s arch nemesis joining the big leagues! Check out the video:

  • I think it’s a bit too early to be jumping the gun on his involvement with Justice League, but I’d love to see something like that eventually! While Justice League: Part One will be out long before Shazam’s April 2019 release date, it’s more than possible that we’ll see him interact with the other heroes in Justice League: Part Two just two months after in June 2019. Stay tuned!

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Avengers: Age of Ultron:

  • I don’t normally share TV spots, but this one was just too good! Iron Man and Captain America! Thor’s  hammer and Cap’s shield! Quicksilver’s accent?! LOOK AT IT!

Insidious: Chapter 3:

  • Bad things are making worse things happen! LOOK AT IT!

Pixels:

  • Adam Sandler and friends fight video game characters! Pac-Man! Donkey Kong! LOOK AT IT!

And there you have it, my lovely Muties! On a scale of one to chimichanga, how excited are you for Deadpool? Does Popeye need a comeback? What did you think about the Pixels trailer? Let us know what you think! As always, have an excellent week ahead and be good to one another!
