TM Movie News: Daredevil, Alf, Eastwood & more

- by The Rajun Cajun, 14 August 2012

Welcome back, kiddies! Here’s more Movie News with yours truly, The Rajun Cajun! Let’s all sit back, relax, and prepare for another week’s worth of Hollywood news, speculation, and other, equally fun, stuff!

  • Last week I said that Joss Whedon’s gonna direct the Avengers sequel. Here are some more awesome details on that story: Whedon’s gonna be with Marvel through 2015. Great news, because he was the reason that The Avengers was so excellent. He’s also going to be involved with a new Marvel TV show on ABC. Speculations are that this show will be about SHIELD. Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury? Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill? Will Agent Phil Coulson be back? We’ll see. This is great news! Also, Whedon’s overseeing Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor: The Dark World, and The Guardians of the Galaxy. Mr. Whedon’s gonna be a busy man! May 1, 2015 is the reported release date for the Avengers sequel, and we couldn’t be more excited!

  • While we’re on Marvel, let’s talk about Daredevil. Fox owns his rights, and Marvel/Disney wants them back. If Fox has nothing in production on a Daredevil movie by the end of the year, Marvel gets them back with no problem. Apparently there’s a great script for it out there, but Fox needs more time to get it going. So, in an effort to give Fox more time, Marvel wants to make a deal with Fox: If Fox gives Marvel back Galactus and the Silver Surfer, they can keep Daredevil. Since Fox is more interested in making a Fantastic Four reboot (Josh Trank of Chronicle is attached to direct it), it looks like Marvel will be gaining Daredevil back. Awesome! Let’s work towards that Marvel Knights movie, guys!

Marvel Knights. Would you wanna see it?

  • On the DC/WB side of things, Ben Affleck to direct the JLA? Let’s take a look at this. Affleck’s a very talented director (just watch The Town), and this just solidifies the rumor that WB’s looking for a gritty take on the Justice League. Personally, I don’t have a problem with it, just as long as the core characters are there and true to their source material. More recently, it’s been reported that he’s not interested, but we’ll see.

  • In other news, another Haunted Mansion Disney movie? Guillermo del Toro was working on this a few years ago, but all’s been quiet on that front… Until now! According to a recent interview, his newest draft of the script is done, and they’re having a meeting on it very soon.  I think this would be a great project for him, providing its nothing like that movie he produced a little while ago… Don’t be Afraid of the Dark… That movie sucked. Good on him, though!

  • Remember Alf? Sony, who made The Smurfs, had recently acquired the rights to make an animated Alf movie, much like The Smurfs, Yogi Bear, and Garfield were. Now that’s a bad idea. Alf is a puppet. That’s like making a Muppet movie with a CGI Kermit. Stoppit Sony. Also, Alf’s a little dated, isn’t he? He lived and died with the '80s. Why try to bring him back now? Go eat a cat, Sony.

What is it with all the '80s stuff coming back, dude?

  • Speaking of old stuff to get re-launched, another Bill and Ted movie is still happening. Dean Parisot has been confirmed to direct, and once he’s done with Red 2, this movie will have his full attention. Rock on, dude. Wyld Stallyons for life.

  • Official pictures of Daniel Day Lewis starring as Abraham Lincoln in his upcoming bio-pic are out and… Wow… He really is Honest Abe. We’re looking at a potential Oscar winner here:

Probably no vampire slaying in this one.

  • In smaller news, Sacha Baron Cohen is looking to make a James Bond spoof movie. Yawn. He’s ok, but I just don’t care enough.

  • Pixar will be releasing a Toy Story short in front of Finding Nemo 3D. Yay!

  • Trouble with the Curve. Clint Eastwood’s back into acting in this soon-to-be baseball drama. Awesome. We love you, Mr. Eastwood. Please play Bruce Wayne in a Batman Beyond movie before you die. It’d make you immortal. We promise.

Picture
Cint Eastwood could make ANYTHING watchable, though.

  • The Red Dawn remake trailer’s out. Looks cool, but… Meh.

  • And finally, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (or just Ninja Turtles now, we guess). The co-creator of the original TMNT says that the new movie is being delayed because the director’s “waiting for better CGI.” He wants them to look as realistic as possible. Ok then. I’m looking forward to it.

And that’s all she wrote, folks! What’s your take on this week’s news? Pumped about the Avengers news? What about Ben Affleck’s JLA? Will Alf suck? What’s up, Trash Mutant?!
