TM Movie News: Deadpool, Dungeons, Dragons & A Doctor

- by Steve Garcia, 10 August 2015

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Doctor Strange, Deadpool, and Dungeons & Dragons! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME! This edition of Movie News is brought to you by the letter D.

Doctor Strange:

  • With all the talk of Civil War, Batman and Superman, the Suicide Squad, Deadpool, the Fantastic Four, and all those other potential movie goldmines, the public seems to have forgotten about the one and only Doctor Strange. As director Scott Derrickson has been scouting locations for the film in London, cinematographer Ben Davis has released a public statement of the tone of the upcoming Marvel movie:
  • “It has a very psychedelic grounding, and it’s not your typical Marvel action movie … Most of the work within it is about other dimensions. And I described it, I think, when I was talking to Marvel as Marvel’s Fantasia, in a way, because it’s so sort of out there and different to everything else that they’ve done.”
  • For anyone who’s familiar with the Sorcerer Supreme’s history and/or an admirer of co-creator Steve Ditko’s comic book art, “Marvel’s Fantasia” is the absolute perfect pitch to bring this character to life. Doctor Strange hits theaters on November 4, 2016, and will be the first Marvel Studios flick in a post-Civil War world.

Dungeons & Dragons:

  • Move out of the way, jocks! Hollywood is for the nerds, and what draws in a horde of nerds together in a dark basement faster than the latest comic book/fantasy/video game/sci-fi extravaganza? Dungeons. And. Dragons. Warner Bros. is finally making the dream a reality, and the wheels are officially in motion to bring the dice-rolling tabletop adventure to life on the big screen, with David Leslie Johnson (The Conjuring 2, Wrath of the Titans) penning the script. Check out WB’s official word below:
  • “We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen. This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them:

  • True Detective’s Colin Farrell has officially joined the cast of the Harry Potter spinoff film, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them! Originally reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the Irish actor will be playing Graves, a wizard whom the main character Newt Scamander (played by Eddie Redmayne) meets in New York City, seventy years before the events in the Harry Potter series. The spinoff is slated for release on November 18, 2016.

PEZ:

  • Tilt your head back and enjoy the sweet, chalky taste of Envision Media Art’s latest project: PEZ. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, the candy famous for its plastic character dispensers are headed to Hollywood, which can only be some sort of response to the critically claimed success of The LEGO Movie and the announcement of Sony’s up and coming film based on Emojis. While next to nothing about the project is known at this moment in time, Cameron Fay (Brother in Laws) has been attached as the screenwriter. This world.

Also, we have this EXCLUSIVE leaked promo image! Wow, The Rock is in it! This is gonna be great.

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Deadpool:

  • Now that the Fantastic Flop has done its thing at the box office, we have to wait a staggering SEVEN MONTHS for the next crack at the superhero movie. And what movie might that be? Well here’s the BEST TRAILER THAT COULD HAVE EVER BEEN MADE FOR IT. OH MY GOD, IT’S DEADPOOL. LOOK AT IT!

And there you have it, my lovely Muties! Is a PEZ movie worth making? What are your thoughts on the Harry Potter spinoff? How awesome was that Deadpool trailer?! Let us know! As always, be good to one another!
