TM Movie News: Die Hard, Mad Max, Indiana Jones & more!

- by Steve Garcia, 19 October 2015

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Did you know that Die Hard, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, and Mad Max are all getting sequels?! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Picture

Die Hard 6:

  • Yet another sequel on the horizon! But is this sequel a prequel? According to an insider through Deadline, director Len Wiseman will be back for another Die Hard installment that takes place in 1979. This origin story for Bruce Willis’s John McClane is being referred to as Die Hard Year One. I think this is a dumb idea because John McClain’s origin story began in that tower on Christmas, 1988 and a prequel will only take away from the masterpiece that was the original. But what do I know? I just report what I hear and vomit it on the internet.

King Kong vs. Godzilla:

  • As a follow up to last time’s story, monsters will indeed collide as King Kong vs. Godzilla is officially happening in 2020! Kong: Skull Island and a Godzilla sequel have both been slated for 2018 before the upcoming brawl. Check out some snippets from the press release:
  • “Following Legendary’s and Warner Bros. Pictures’ 2014 success with the global reinvention of the Godzilla franchise, the companies have come together to create an epic, new shared cinematic franchise. All-powerful monsters become towering heroes for a new generation, revealing a mythology that brings together Godzilla and Legendary’s King Kong in an ecosystem of other giant super-species, both classic and new. Monarch, the human organization that uncovered Godzilla in the 2014 film, will expand their mission across multiple releases.”
  • “The initial trio of films are 2017’s KONG: SKULL ISLAND; GODZILLA 2 in 2018; and then GODZILLA VS. KONG, arriving in theaters in 2020. The initial trio of films are 2017’s KONG: SKULL ISLAND; GODZILLA 2 in 2018; and then GODZILLA VS. KONG, arriving in theaters in 2020. Shortly following Legendary’s pact with NBC Universal, Legendary acquired rights to additional classic characters from Toho’s Godzilla universe, including Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah. This paved the way for developing a franchise centered around Monarch and anchored by Godzilla, King Kong, and other famous creatures.”
  • Woah! Rodan, Mothra, and King Ghidorah were name dropped? How is there still a humanity to protect in this universe?! As much as I didn’t really dig the last Godzilla movie, I’m really stoaked for King Kong’s introduction, as I still stand by Peter Jackson’s version released ten years ago. LET THEM FIGHT!

Mad Max:

  • Will we see more of Charlize Theron’s Furiosa in the next Mad Max movie? In an interview with DigitalSpy, George Miller told it like it is:
  • "I'm not sure, is the answer. She's not in the Mad Max [sequel] story, but in one of the stories there's an interaction between [Max and Furiosa]. I can't really say more than that because it's still in progress.”
  • As much as I loved the character, I think it’s a smart move to leave her be for now. The world established in Mad Max is so big, and the more opportunities to meet awesome new characters, the better. It is neat that she might return eventually, though!

Thor: Ragnarok:

  • Thor’s got a little bit of company in his next movie, as the Incredible Hulk smashes his way into his sequel! First reported by JoBlo, Mark Ruffalo is in final negotiations to star as Bruce Banner in Thor: Ragnarok, slated for November 3, 2017. This explains why the two won’t be present in next year’s Civil War adaptation, and will likely set the stage for Avengers: Infinity War Part One, slated for May 4, 2018. Hulk going off planet, eh? I hope that leads to something cool… Like, World War Hulk cool. DO IT MARVEL!
