- by Steve Garcia, 30 June 2014

Happy Monday, Trash Muties! What’s the latest on that Fantastic Four reboot? Is Dracula the new Batman? When can we expect Pacific Rim 2? Also, did you know they’re making a new Beverly Hills Cop movie? Sit back and relax, my righteous readers—it’s MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:

  • The cast of Batman v Superman continues to grow as Scoot McNairy (Argo) will join the cast in an unknown role. Whether his role is significant to the plot or just a throwaway cameo has yet to be seen, but internet speculation has the actor marked as everything from Green Lantern to the Blue Beetle.

  • WHO ARE YOU, SCOOT?!

Beverly Hills Cop 4:

  • The latest Beverly Hills Cop sequel has found its release date in March 2016! Eddie Murphy will return as detective Axel Foley, it will be directed by Brett Ratner (Rush Hour), filming is set to start soon in Detroit, and here’s an unofficial synopsis courtesy of ComingSoon.Net:
  • The newest installment of Beverly Hills Cop, from the ultimate "fish-out-of-water" franchise, takes Axel Foley, who has been living a cushy life as a Beverly Hills Detective, back to Detroit during the coldest winter on record to navigate the new rules and old enemies in one of America's most tenacious cities.

The Fantastic Four:

  • Fox’s President of Production Emma Watts shed some light as to what director Josh Trank (Chronicle) will bring to the table with his upcoming Fantastic Four reboot:
  • "We're making a big bet for 2015 with The Fantastic Four and director Josh Trank. To me, the key is the originality of the filmmakers and the choices they make. Josh is another really interesting example, who is using the vision he gave us in Chronicle to reinvent a franchise he's loved his whole life. It's not that you can't make original ideas -- you can, and we did it with Chronicle. The director is the key to not letting superhero movies go stale. That's the truth."
  • Watts also confirmed that Trank will add a found footage element to the film. The Fantastic Four is slated for a June 19, 2015 release.

The Huntsman:

  • Legendary filmmaker Frank Darabont is reportedly in negotiations to direct The Huntsman, a spin-off of 2012’s Snow White and the Huntsman. Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron are both set to return, while Kristen Stewart (Snow White herself) will apparently be excluded entirely. A release date has yet to be announced, and the spin-off will be produced by Joe Roth (Maleficent).

Overnight:

  • Director Steve Pink (About Last Night) is officially attached to Disney’s upcoming adventure film Overnight, which has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “Home Alone in an FAO Schwarz-esque toy store.” Pink has recently wrapped up production on Hot Tub Time Machine 2, which is set to release this Christmas.

Pacific Rim 2:

  • In a successful move to blow up the internet, the beloved Guillermo del Toro announced that not only will a sequel to Pacific Rim hit theaters in 2017, but an animated series is on the way, as is a continuation of the prequel comic “Pacific Rim: Tales from Year Zero.” The film will be co-written by Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand, Elektra). Here’s his personal video announcement:

Star Trek 3:

  • Roberto Orci, director of the upcoming follow-up to Star Trek Into Darkness, has finally spoken up about what fans can expect from the probable2016 release. Check it out:
  • "In this movie they are closer than they are to the original series characters that you have ever seen. They have set off on their five-year mission. So their adventure is going to be in deep space."

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Child of God:

  • Did you know James Franco is a director now?! That dude was in Pineapple Express! LOOK AT IT!

Dracula Untold:

  • It’s like Dracula, but as a superhero! LOOK AT IT!

And there we have it, folks! Where do you want the Star Trek crew to go in the next one? What are your feelings on The Huntsman spin-off? Who do you want Scoot McNairy to be in Batman v Superman? Did the Fox president calm your nerves about the upcoming FF reboot, or are you still just as scorned as I am? Lastly, are you digging this Dracula? As always boys and girls, have an excellent rest of the week and be good to one another!
