TM Movie News: Hitchcock, Ant-Man, Halloween & more

- by The Rajun Cajun, 28 September 2012

Welcome back, Trash Mutants! Another movie news segment coming at you!

Picture

  • To begin, let’s talk Marvel movies: There was a rumor that in Thor: The Dark World, Viggo Mortensen would be playing Dr. Strange. For those of you who have no idea who Strange is, he's a huge deal in the Marvel Universe. He’s the Sorcerer Supreme. Like Harry Potter on magical steroids. Unfortunately, it's not true, but when questioned about it, Marvel never ruled out that Strange wasn't going to appear. We'll see what happens then.

  • In more Marvel news, let’s talk Guardians of the Galaxy. James Gunn is officially directing and that's awesome. Good on him. It's great to have confirmation. These characters are right up his alley. Even better, he's re-working the script, and Joss Whedon gave the ok.

  • More news on the Whedon SHIELD TV show. He said that all-new SHIELD characters will be featured, so don't expect Agent Coulson, Maria Hill, or Nick Fury. My guess is that it’ll revolve around Agent Jasper Sitwell, who was very recently introduced as a “Coulson replacement” in the short Item 47 featurette on the Avengers DVD. We should trust Whedon, he knows his stuff, especially on TV (Buffy, Angel, Firefly, etc.)

  • The Ant-Man test footage was shown exclusively at SDCC, and people like me have been dying to see it. Fortunately for us, someone who was there was nice enough to create a slideshow of drawings that he made by memory. This is the video:

As you can see, his look is very similar to the Eric O'Grady Ant-Man, with the helmet covering his entire face. Not sure how I feel about this, as I'm a big fan of Pym's (the original comicbook Ant-Man) look, but I can understand why they went in this direction. Great stuff, nevertheless.

  • Onto other news, let’s discuss Transformers 4. Hasbro wants more new characters to sell new toys. They flat out said this. So Hasbro, in this short sentence, straight up admitted that these movies are gigantic commercials. Well, at least they’re being honest, but now that they know that we know, it makes those movies look even worse. For shame.

  • More sequel news: Independence Day 2 and 3. Yep. That's real. ID Forever Part I and II. Yes. That's real. They will both be converted into 3D, and that's what the studio wants. Will Smith may actually do this because he pushed MIB 3 oh, so, hard, but who in the world is asking for more of this? Who, I ask you.

  • Speaking of post-3D conversions, Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim will be converted into 3D. Ugh. This trend needs to die.

  • Hitchcock news. No, not the Will Smith movie. It's the bio-pic movie about Alfred Hitchcock starring Anthony Hopkins. Danny Elfman will be doing the score, and that's fine. He's great at what he does. The Batman and Spider-Man themes rule.

  • Kick-Ass 2 set photos are out and it looks great.

  • The Robocop remake photos are also out, revealing his new costume. The general response is that it sucks, but I gotta say that it's not so bad. It kind of looks like Batman meets Iron Man, and I really don't see an issue with that. There's also concept out, and it looks even better on there, so I think it'll look more like the concept art when the final product is out. It also could’ve been much, much worse:

  • A pitch reel was released for a Halloween remake that was made before the Rob Zombie film. It’s animated, and it really sets the tone for what could have been. I’m a big fan of the Rob Zombie remake, but this looked like it had serious potential. Hopefully this will be on the table for a future reboot of the franchise.

And that’s all she wrote. So would you be interested to see Dr. Strange appear in the "Thor" sequel? Will you pay money to see the "Independence Day" sequels? What are your thoughts on the "Ant-Man" and "Halloween" videos? Until next time, have a good one, readers!
