TM Movie News: It, Gambit, Johnny Quest, Batman & more!

- by Steve Garcia, 1 June 2015

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Superheroes, killer clowns, and kick-ass potential action franchise cash cows! Rumors, sequels, remakes, and reboots! You know what time it is-- IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Picture

The Expendables 4:

  • You know what the Expendables franchise needs? More legendary WWE wrestlers. In a recent Q&A session at the Body Pro Expo in Birmingham, England, Hulk Hogan revealed that he very well might be the villain in the upcoming sequel. Check out his official quote:
  • “Was talking on the phone with [Sylvester Stallone] about doing The Expendables 4. We’re trying to figure out a way to maybe turn me into the most evil man in the world. Y’know, Stallone gave me my first break and he’s been a great friend. We had a great conversation, talking about the possibilities. Can I still run, can I still jump? Well, not as fast or not as high, but I think Hollywood could find a good stunt man to help me out.”
  • Whether he’s in it or not, I just hope this time it’ll be rated R. There is no official release date yet, but apparently The Expendables 4 is in very early production!

Gambit:

  • The Cajun speaks! Channing Tatum has finally revealed a little more on his upcoming Gambit spinoff movie for the X-Men franchise, and it looks like this’ll just be another origin story, but with some apparent twists. Check out his comments he gave to Empire magazine:
  • “Josh Zetumer just turned in the first draft of the script, and it’s killer. None of us were sure how he was going to deal with the X-Men world. But we’re going to be changing some of the tropes of these movies. It’s always about saving the world, but maybe we’re going to shift things a little bit. There’s so many ways you can take [an origin story]. You could do it like Batman Begins or a different take and go the Guardians of the Galaxy route. All I can say is I’m super excited.”
  • As excited as Tatum might be, however, it looks like a bunch of high-profile directors aren’t. According to Umberto Gonzalez of Latino Review, both Bennett Miller (Foxcatcher) and Darren Aronofsky (Black Swan) have both declined offers to direct. If those weren’t big misses, apparently Gareth Evans (The Raid) and J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) have also passed the opportunity. If Gambit wants that October 7, 2016 release date, it’s going to need that director soon!

Stephen King’s It:

  • The clown is dead! First reported by TheWrap, “True Detective” director Cary Fukunaga has left the upcoming remake of Stephen King’s It. Confirmed by multiple sources, it appears that the project is pretty much dead at the moment.  We’re the Millers star Will Poulter would have starred as the horror icon Pennywise the Clown. Here’s a tweet from Stephen King himself on the unfortunate event:

The remake of IT may be dead--or undead--but we'll always have Tim Curry. He's still floating down in the sewers of Derry.

Jonny Quest:

  • Robert Rodriguez is directing a live-action Jonny Quest! An awesome Hanna-Barbera cartoon from long, long ago, “Jonnny Quest” was an action extravaganza that starred a boy whose father’s scientific expeditions lead to thrilling adventures. From Deadline, Warner Bros is looking to bring the character to today’s movie screens, and to turn it into a live-action family adventure franchise. I can’t wait! Check out the main titles from the original cartoon below:

Wonder Woman:

  • Captain Kirk is Wonder Woman’s boyfriend?! According to an exclusive scoop at Variety, Star Trek star Chris Pine is in final negotiations with WB to star alongside Gal Gadot in 2017’s Wonder Woman. The report claims that Pine will be playing Steve Trevor, who has been Wonder Woman’s love interest for a majority of her history in the comic books. While WB has had no comments, this would debunk the theory that the studio was eying Pine as the all new Green Lantern for the upcoming Zack Snyder-helmed Justice League: Part One. Wonder Woman is going to make her debut in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and will be returning for her own feature film on June 23, 2017.

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Black Mass:

  • Johnny Depp is a normal man again! LOOK AT IT!

Point Break:

  • The remake you demanded! It’s EXTREME! LOOK AT IT!

Suicide Squad:

  • This is why you can’t film in populated areas! Batman! LOOK AT IT!

And there you have it, my lovely Muties! Do we want another Exendables movie? Why does no one want to direct the Gambit movie? Should Chris Pine play Steve Trevor or Green Lantern? What are your thoughts on Jonny Quest? Let us know! As always, have an excellent week ahead and be good to one another!
