TM Movie News: JLA, Robocop, Jim Carrey in Kick-Ass 2

- by The Rajun Cajun, 5 September 2012

Hey Trash Mutant! Due to some schedule alterations, the Movie News segment will be bi-weekly instead of weekly from now on. Sorry for the inconvenience. There’s some pretty big movie news this week, so let’s jump right to it, shall we?

Picture

  • To start things off, let’s talk about the Justice League movie. Recall that Ben Affleck was possibly going to direct it. Well, now Ben Affleck's not gonna do it. I kind of figured, but now the speculation is on the Wachowski Brothers. Oh, boy. Blood in the water, folks. Sure, it'd look cool, but... I don't know... The Matrix was a great movie, but the sequels and Speed Racer? Not so sure about this one. It's also possible that Batman's new movie (2016) will be a spin-off from the Justice League. Good idea, but DC better pull it off... I mean, after Nolan? I don't know. We’ll see.

  • The script has supposedly leaked for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. Apparently the turtles are, in fact, aliens as the public had dreaded. However this may be a hoax, but either way, this wouldn't be the final draft anyway. Peter Laird, co-creator of the TMNT, spoke out and pretty much said the script was garbage. He'd know, right? Things aren’t looking so great for this project right now.

  • The new Texas Chainsaw movie. Another one? Well, it's gonna be in 3D and it's a direct sequel to the original film. Someone made a poster.... and nobody cares.

Faces flying at you in THREE DEE!!!

  • Pacific Rim pictures are out. No monsters just yet, but it's cool nevertheless. Look at it:

  • Robocop reboot. Hugh “House” Laurie dropped out for the villain role, and Michael “Batman” Keaton is up for it now. I'm a big fan of Keaton, so I'm kind of pumped for this. The villain is reportedly a corporate guy, so... cool?

  • Metal Gear Solid… THE MOVIE?! Yep. That's real and it's happening. Avi Arad of Sony Spider-Man fame is producing it. Recall that he's one of the men responsible for the slew of superhero movies during the early 2000's, he's looking to do the same thing, but with "good" video game movies. I say bring it on. Solid Snake is a cool character, and I think this can totally work, especially if the right people are involved.

  • Back into comic book news, a potential director for the Guardians of the Galaxy movie is James Gunn, and he directed a very tiny movie called Super. Super (starring Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page) was an excellent movie very comparable to Kick-Ass, and he was also involved with the recent video game Lollipop Chainsaw. This is a great choice, because I think this kind of movie is right up his alley. Awesome stuff.

  • In some potentially disappointing news, for Thor: The Dark World........ Kat Dennings is back. NO! I'm sorry, I might be in the minority, but she was the weakest part of the first film. She contributed nothing to the film but stupid jokes about Facebook and the like. This is also upsetting (to me) because this tells me that the movie will not take place in Asgard much. I’m disappointed, Marvel. Stoppit.

  • Jim Carrey is going to be in Kick-Ass 2 as a villain. More and more casting choices have been revealed in the past few weeks, and the more I hear, the more I'm interested. I’m pretty excited for this one.

  • The poster for Lincoln is out, and it's further proof that Daniel Day Lewis is the real Abe Lincoln. Check it out:

This is going be one hell of a movie.

  • In more bio-pic news, an image of Ashton Kutcher as a young Steve Jobs is out and it looks really cool. So far, things look pretty great for this movie. See for yourself!

  • Gary Ross, director of The Hunger Games, is going to direct a Peter Pan prequel called Peter and the Starcatchers. Cool. I like Peter Pan, and I like Gary Ross. Good stuff.

  • Finally, the writers of National Treasure are going to rewrite the Uncharted movie script. Hell yeah. Uncharted is one of the few video games that I'd love to see as a feature film. National Treasure may not have been the best movie ever, but hey, they know what they're doing. So long as Nic Cage stays away...

And that’s it for this week’s movie news! What do you think about the Wachowski Brothers on the Justice League? Will you go see the Metal Gear Solid film? Which bio-pick movie are you looking most forward to: Lincoln’s or Jobs’s? Thanks for reading this week, Cajun out.
