TM Movie News: Mark Millar, Apes and Suits!

- by The Rajun Cajun, 10 October 2012

Trash Mutant Movie News coming atcha right now:

Picture

  • First off, Seth MacFarlane is officially going to host the next Academy Awards. Prepare for poop and fart jokes and unnecessary and time-filling musicals.

  • Onto some superhero news. Mark Webb is officially coming back to direct the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man. That’s fantastic news, but hopefully Sony will step back and let him do what he wants. He’s a talented guy.

  • Speaking of super sequels, Iron Man 3’s trailer will be debuting on October 23. Just in time for my birthday. Thanks, Marvel Studios!

  • There also might be a new Hulk standalone movie on the way. Kevin Feige, the big suit at Marvel Studios, said that it wouldn't happen until after the Avengers sequel, but that’s still better than nothing. With all the space stuff being explored, maybe they’ll give us a Planet Hulk movie. Speculation, speculation, speculation.

  • Fox released an image of the first look of Wolverine in The Wolverine. Yawn.

The latest in Wolverine's weird haircuts!

  • While we’re on the subject of Marvel and Fox, comic book writer Mark Millar has been hired by Fox to oversee all of their superhero projects from now on, including the FF reboot and the X-Men sequels and spin-offs. This is great news because the Fox movies (with the exception of First Class) have been very lacking in that extra something. Millar is a great choice specifically because he’s had lots of experience writing Wolverine (Old Man Logan and Enemy of the State) and has done runs on Ultimate X-Men, Ultimate Fantastic Four, and just the plain old Fantastic Four. Looking back now, it’s a shame that Daredevil’s rights converted back to Marvel Studios on October 10, as Millar is especially great with the “street level” characters. Either way, this is great news for Fox.

  • Outside the mass amounts of comic news, let’s talk Planet of the Apes. As you know, last year’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes was epic, and calls for a sequel. Matt Reeves is confirmed to be directing. He directed Cloverfield and Let Me In, so he knows what he's doing. Still no word on whether or not Andy Serkis will return to play the main chimp. We’ll see.

  • More sequel news. A Dumb and Dumber sequel is in the works. The title is officially called Dumb and Dumber To (that’s not a typo, folks). No word on if Jim Carrey or that other guy will return. Cool, I guess?

  • The Godzilla reboot news: a script rewrite calls for the characters to be older. That's great news because I'm sick of the whole "teens fighting this thing" shtick. With the approach it looks like they’re taking on this reboot, it’s going to be great. Good job, suits!

  • While we’re on reboots, The Mummy is also getting a reboot. Not the Brendan Fraser movie, though. It's a reboot of the original “wrapped in toilet paper mummy” movie. Supposedly the pitch called for a "modern" take on the character, and it specifically called it "dark and gritty." Really? You have to clarify that a horror character has to be dark and gritty? Shut up, suits.

And that’s it for this week. You want a new Hulk movie? Are you looking forward to the new Wolverine movie? What about the "Rise of the Apes" sequel and the "Godzilla" reboot? Talk about it in the comments, and have a great week. Rajun Cajun out.
