TM Movie News: Marvel Announcement Round Up!

- by Steve Garcia, 3 November 2014

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Just when you thought we had enough, Marvel gives us the slate of a lifetime! Civil War! Ragnarok! Black Panther! Inhumans! Captain Marvel! Infinity War! Channing Tatum’s Gambit? We’ll take it! IT’S MERRY MARVELOUS MEGA MOVIE NEWS MONDAY!

Picture

Avengers: Age of Ultron:

  • Joss Whedon speaks! Earlier this week, the director spoke with marvel.com about how the sequel will have a much more global focus than the previous film. Check out the word:
  • “This is a very global film. We wanted the world perspective on the Avengers: what they’re doing, what they’ve been doing, who they are. They’re being the Avengers. That’s a global thing and that doesn’t make everybody love them, so we wanted to see both sides of that.”

Avengers: Infinity War Part I & Part II:

  • You read that right! In a bold move that totally coincidentally mirrors WB’s approach to Justice League, the Avengers film we’ve all been waiting for will be split into two parts! Avengers: Infinity War Part I will hit theaters on May 4, 2018, with Part II following on May 3, 2019.

Black Panther:

  • Stop the presses! Not only has Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed the fabled Black Panther film for November 3, 2017, but that the iconic superhero will be played by Chadwick Boseman (42), he will make his big screen debut in Captain America: Civil War, and he’ll look a lot like this:

Captain America: Civil War:

  • The rumors were true, ladies and gents! After the big, bad Age of Ultron hits the Marvel Cinematic Universe, things will take a turn for the worse as “Civil War” makes its film debut. Kevin Feige said that Captain America: Civil War will be “a global superhuman registration with a specific inciting incident" and that, "Secret identities aren't as important in the MCU version of the story." Confirmed by Joss Whedon, the Avengers roster will go through a dramatic change following the events of Age of Ultron, and rumors suggest that Tony Stark will take it upon himself to see that the up and coming superhuman community will have someone to answer to. The Russo brothers will be back to direct this sequel, and Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and many more Avengers alumni are set to return. Captain America: Civil War is slated for a May 6, 2016 release.

Dr. Strange:

  • Marvel Studios announced that Dr. Strange will be officially coming to theaters on November 4, 2016! While it is still unconfirmed by Marvel themselves, reports claimed earlier this week that Benedict Cumberbatch will indeed be playing the Sorcerer Supreme. Directed by Scott Derickson, Feige confirmed that this film will introduce the concept of magic to the ever-growing Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Gambit:

  • The Rajun Cajun has a writer! 20th Century Fox has reportedly hired RoboCop scribe Josh Zetumer to write the X-Men spin-off starring Channing Tatum. Tatum is expected to make his debut in 2016’s X-Men: Apocalypse, directed by Bryan Singer. The script will apparently be based on a treatment by none other than Chris Claremont, the leading name in X-Men writers and co-creator of Gambit himself.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Captain Marvel, and Inhumans:

  • Continuing the freight train of Marvel movie news, we can expect to see the Guardians of the Galaxy again a few months earlier than we thought, on May 5, 2017. But that’s not all! Feige also confirmed two new films to the Marvel Cinematic Universe slate with Captain Marvel on July 6, 2018 and Inhumans on November 2, 2018. Feige was quick to add that Captain Marvel will indeed star Carol Danvers, and that nods to Inhumans will be seen much sooner than later. Get hyped!

Thor: Ragnarok:

  • Following Guardians of the Galaxy 2, the Gods of Thunder and Mischief will be back again in Thor: Ragnarok on July 28, 2017! The film will take place immediately after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, and will take Thor to bold new places as the darkness gets darker. Spooky scary fire demons perhaps? We’ll see!

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Marvel Cinematic Universe:

  • You might wanna watch these in order! It’ll give you chills! LOOK AT IT!

The Spongebob Movie: Sponge out of Water:

  • And in non-Marvel news, here’s a new trailer! LOOK AT IT!

And there you have it, my lovely Muties! Which Marvel announcement was your favorite? Does Civil War tickle your fancy? What do you want out of Infinity War? What do you think about the Black Panther concept art? Have you warmed up to Channing Tatum Gambit yet? And how about those trailers?! Let us know in the comments below! As always, have an excellent week ahead and be good to one another!
