TM Movie News: Nic Cage, Jurassic World, Tarantino & more!

- by Steve Garcia, 2 June 2014

Happy Monday, Trash Muties! While it might have been another slow week for the movie news, you know I’ll still deliver the goods for ya! Jurassic Park! Ant-Man! Quentin Tarantino! Nic Cage?! Sit back and read to your heart’s content, ladies and germs: it’s time for MOVIE NEWS!

Picture

Ant-Man:

  • As I’m sure we’re all aware of it by now, Edgar Wright has officially dropped from directing Marvel’s Ant-Man after being attached to it for eight years over creative differences. Since then, the race and pressure is on to get the ball rolling and as of right now, the two main contenders are Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) and Rawson Thurber (We’re the Millers). A few days ago it looked like Anchorman director Adam McKay was the man for the job, but he went ahead and abruptly turned it down, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Marvel is still confident that its July 2016 release date is still going to happen, but in order for that, production has to start pretty soon. What’s going on, Marvel?! I’m getting antsy, here!

Ghostbusters 3:

  • You know it’s a slow week if I’m reporting on this one, ladies and gents! Segueing nicely into this topic, not only is Ruben Fleischer being considered for Ant-Man, but The Wrap says that he’s also being eyed by Sony for Ghost Busters 3. Not a bad choice, I suppose. Wasn’t Bill Murray in Zombieland? Hmm…

Guardians of the Galaxy:

  • It was recently announced that Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men) will not only be in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, but he’ll be playing the villainous Thanos! For the movie-watching crowd, Thanos is the big purple guy who you saw in the post-credits scene for The Avengers. For the casual comic-reading crew, Thanos is the big purple guy with the gauntlet that more or less annihilated the Marvel Universe because he felt like it. And now he’s been officially casted for what is sure to be multiple film appearances, and that’s awesome! I guess now we know why he turned down Batman, eh Warner Bros?

The Hateful Eight:

  • Remember a few months ago when I told you that Quentin Tarantino completely scrapped The Hateful Eight after his script leaked? Well, he changed his mind! Showbiz411 claims that the movie is back on track, it’ll be filming in Wyoming this November, and that its stars will include Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, James Remar, Amber Tamblyn, Walt Goggins, and Zoe Bell. Unfortunately no Christoph Waltz, apparently, but Kurt Russell, Samuel L Jackson and Tarantino’s names alone are enough to get my butt in the seat. Can’t wait for this one!

Jurassic World:

  • To ensure that the fans have nothing to worry about concerning the upcoming Jurassic Park sequel, director Colin Trevorrow spilled the beans on what we can expect after some truthful rumors slipped through the cracks. I’m excited! Check out some interesting tidbits he dropped in an interview with SlashFilm:
  • "Jurassic World takes place in a fully functional park on Isla Nublar. It sees more than 20,000 visitors every day. You arrive by ferry from Costa Rica. It has elements of a biological preserve, a safari, a zoo, and a theme park. There is a luxury resort with hotels, restaurants, nightlife and a golf course. And there are dinosaurs. Real ones. You can get closer to them than you ever imagined possible. It’s the realization of John Hammond’s dream, and I think you’ll want to go there.”
  • “This film picks up twenty-two years after Jurassic Park. When Derek [Connolly] and I sat down to find the movie, we looked at the past two decades and talked about what we’ve seen. Two things came to the surface. One was that money has been the gasoline in the engine of our biggest mistakes. If there are billions to be made, no one can resist them, even if they know things could end horribly. The other was that our relationship with technology has become so woven into our daily lives, we’ve become numb to the scientific miracles around us. We take so much for granted.”
  • “Those two ideas felt like they could work together. What if, despite previous disasters, they built a new biological preserve where you could see dinosaurs walk the earth…and what if people were already kind of over it? We imagined a teenager texting his girlfriend with his back to a T-Rex behind protective glass. For us, that image captured the way much of the audience feels about the movies themselves. ‘We’ve seen CG dinosaurs. What else you got?’ Next year, you’ll see our answer.”

And that’s that, righteous readers! What do you think about Josh Brolin playing Thanos? Excited about the Hateful Eight? Were Trevorrow’s words enough to buy a ticket to Jurassic World? Let us know! That’s a wrap for this week! As always, be good to one another!
