TM Movie News: Post-SDCC 2015 Edition

- by Steve Garcia, 14 July 2015

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Post SDCC usually means a lot of big movie news, but since only two studios of actual importance attended this year, we have to make the most of it! Fox had Deadpool and the X-Men! WB had Superman and Batman! Rambo is fighting ISIS! …wait, what? IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Picture

Deadpool:

  • The lucky fans that attended Fox’s panel over at SDCC got the first look at the first-ever Deadpool trailer! It didn’t take long for it to leak online, and while we couldn’t find a trace of it to post on here, I’ll fill you in: it was fantastic. Ryan Reynolds was born to play this character, as he took every opportunity to take a jab at himself for ever being a part of comic book abominations such as X-Men Origins: Wolverine and 2011’s Green Lantern. The R-rated trailer was an excellent showcase to what the fans have always wanted from a movie starring this particular character, and there was even an awesome cameo by the X-Men’s very own Colossus towards its end. Reynolds confirmed that while special effects from the footage were far from completion, an official trailer will be released in upcoming weeks:

As much as I want the #deadpool footage from #SDCC officially released, the VFX shots aren't done yet. We have something for you in 3 weeks.

Rambo: Last Blood:

  • In a move that literally nobody was expecting (or wanted?), good old Sylvester Stallone took it upon himself to confirm that not only is Last Blood happening, but he’ll be tackling ISIS. Here’s his statement:
  • “We have teams scouting Iraq and parts of Syria where Isis have their greatest strongholds. We're working with the locals there to help deliver the most intense and realistic Rambo movie experience ever."
  •   Well isn’t that just swell? …I think?

Warcraft:

  • Legendary Pictures brought the anticipated film Warcraft over to SDCC and writer/director Duncan Jones had some inspiring things to say about it as reported by Yahoo Movies:
  • “I can’t even begin to explain about what happened to previous video-game movies; I’m sure they took them seriously but something was missing from those movies. I wanted to tell a war story from both sides, and allowing the audience to really empathize and care about both sides, and the fact that there were heroes who could not find a way to avoid this conflict. That to me doesn’t have to be a video game. That could be a story told in any genre. The fact is that it fit beautifully with Warcraft.”
  • Hopefully this one breaks the mold and finally lights the fire for good videogame-based movies! Warcraft hits theaters on June 10, 2016.

X-Men: Apocalypse:

  • The Avengers might’ve skipped out on SDCC this year, but the X-Men sure didn’t! Fans who attended the convention got the first-ever look at the big bad villain and then some. Of course, much like Deadpool, the footage found its way online soon enough, and I was able to check it out! First off, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) was such an inspired choice for a young Jean Grey that I hope that the franchise goes long term with some of its newer mutants. Sprinkled throughout the sizzle reel were her, a young Nightcrawler, Psylocke, and Storm to name a few. Truth be told, I didn’t feel at all intimidated when Oscar Isaac’s Apocalypse look was finally revealed, but I’m going to naively assume that the effects weren’t totally completed and that this was only the tip of the iceberg for the titular villain’s appearance. It was also confirmed that his Four Horseman will be Magneto, Angel, Storm, and Psylocke, which in and of itself is one badass roster. Throw all that info and then shove a bald James McAvoy in your face and we’ve got ourselves a hell of an X-Men movie! The Apocalypse is coming on May 26, 2016.

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:

  • Warner Bros. hit a homerun at SDCC with a three minute commercial! The red capes are coming! LOOK AT IT!

Picture

Suicide Squad:

  • And after WB whined about the leak, they went ahead and released this little beauty for everyone to enjoy! Here’s our new Joker! LOOK AT IT!

And there you have it, my lovely Muties! Have you seen the Deadpool footage? Do you want another Rambo movie? What’s your impression of the Warcraft movie? Did you dig the Suicide Squad trailer? Let us know! As always, be good to one another!
