TM Movie News: Shocker Debut, Jackie Chan Oscar & more!

Jackie Chan:

• Jackie Chan is getting an Oscar! The Academy has decided to award the esteemed actor with the prestigious golden trophy this November at the 8th Annual Governors Awards. Chan, who began his career at age eight, will be the first Chinese actor to claim the award.
  
• "He starred in -- and sometimes wrote, directed and produced -- more than 30 martial arts features in his native Hong Kong, charming audiences with his dazzling athleticism, inventive stunt work and boundless charisma," according to the Academy's news release. "Since 'Rumble in the Bronx' in 1996, he has gone on to enormous worldwide success with the 'Rush Hour' movies, 'Shanghai Noon,' 'Shanghai Knights,' 'Around the World in 80 Days,' 'The Karate Kid' and the 'Kung Fu Panda' series of animated films."
  
• It’s about damn time the man receives some real recognition! Good on you, Jackie Chan!

Pitch Perfect 3:

• Slow news week! Pitch Perfect 3 has landed a new director in Trish Sie (Step Up: All In). Sie is also credited for helping create the OK Go music video for “Here It Goes Again” (you know, the one with the treadmills?) The news was made by Elizabeth Banks, who helmed the previous film in the franchise. Check out the tweet below:

Spider-Man: Homecoming:
                                                

• Jon Favreau is back in the Marvel Universe! Reported from THR, Favreau will reprise his role as Happy Hogan in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot alongside Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. It has been widely speculated that Favreau’s inclusion in the film is to not only to costar as a supporting character, but to lend his directorial hand in the film’s tone, being that he was the one who kicked off the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe with Iron Man. Personally, I can’t get enough of the guy, and hope that this film will springboard into an eventual Iron Man 4 with him sitting in the director’s chair. ​
