TM Movie News: Skull Island, Ant-Man, Suicide Squad & more!

- by Steve Garcia, 12 January 2014

Happy New Year and Monday, my lovely Muties! Gambit and the X-Men! King Kong and the Ant-Man! The Suicide Squad and Snoopy?! C’mon and gather around, kiddies! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Picture

Deadpool:

  • Deadpool’s cast has seemingly begun to grow, as actors Ed Skrein (Game of Thrones) and TJ Miller (Big Hero 6) are reportedly in negotiations to be in the film. According to TheWrap, Skrein is up for a mystery role that they speculate is a villain, while Miller may be lending his voice as Deadpool’s inner voice/narrator/little yellow box captions guy. Directed by Tim Miller, Deadpool will star Ryan Reynolds as the Merc With a Mouth, and it will be coming to a theater near you in February 2016.

Gambit:

  • After a long while of rumor and speculation, actor Channing Tatum has officially announced that he will be playing the X-Men’s Gambit in his own feature film. Confirmed by Fox, Gambit will be headed to theaters on October 7, 2016. The character is speculated to make an appearance in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse in May, 2016, but until then, you can check out Tatum’s tweet below!

LEGO Batman:

  • The LEGO Movie co-director Phil Lord and actor Will Arnett have finally spoken up about the highly anticipated LEGO Batman spin-off film in an interview with MTV! Check out this quote from Lord:
  • "I will say I think the movie is really exciting because it’s about ‘Can Batman be happy? ‘Wah, I’m so rich and handsome, and women like me, and I’ve got a Maclaren. ... Something about my parents!’”- Phil Lord
  • Directed by Robot Chicken’s Chris McKay, LEGO Batman will be written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) and star Will Arnett as our blocky Dark Knight.

Skull Island:

  • According to Deadline, Michael Keaton is in final negotiations to star in the upcoming King Kong origin film Skull Island alongside Tom Hiddleston and JK Simmons. Slated for a March 10, 2017 release, Skull Island will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer).

Suicide Squad:

  • Following the verification of the film’s all-star cast by Warner Bros, actress Viola Davis has not only confirmed her lead role as Amanda Waller, but had some interesting things to say about it to Nerd Report:
  • “I’m fascinated by [Waller]. I’m fascinated by her in this world of superhero-ness because she is not a woman that you would expect. I think that she is a massive contradiction. She’s this big powerful black woman, hard, ready to pick up a gun and shoot anyone at will. I’m fascinated in exploring her psychology, just put it that way. And I’m excited to pick up a gun.”
  • Directed by David Ayer (End of Watch), the film’s star-studded cast includes Tom Hardy, Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto as The Joker. Suicide Squad hits theaters on August 5, 2016.

X-Men: Apocalypse:

  • The hit-or-miss movie rumor site Latino Review supposedly has an inside scoop as to who is up for the roles of a young Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Storm in the upcoming mutant extravaganza X-Men: Apocalypse. According to them, Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones) and Saoirse Ronan (The Lovely Bones) are in the running to play the telepathic/telekinetic Jean Grey. Up for Cyclops are relative newcomers Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Jamie Blackley (If I Stay) and Tye Sheridan (Mud). Lastly, the more obscure TV actresses Alexandra Shipp and Zendaya Coleman are supposedly being eyed to play the young Storm. Directed by Bryan Singer (X-Men, X-Men: Days of Future Past), shooting for X-Men: Apocalypse will begin this April for a May 27, 2016 release.

And there you have it, my lovely Muties! What’s your opinion on the potential X-Men: Apocalypse casting? Are you in for Skull Island? What would you want in the standalone Gambit movie? Let us know! That’ll do it for this week, ladies and germs! Have an excellent week ahead and be good to one another!
