TM Movie News: Special Superhero/Comicbook Edition

- by The Rajun Cajun, 26 October 2012

A super-special superhero and comic book edition of Movie News is here!

Picture

  • First off, it’d be terrible of me to not post the Iron Man 3 trailer (WHICH WAS AWESOME), so please. Watch and enjoy:

  • Ant-Man gets a release date! It’ll be out on November 6, 2015, just a few months after Avengers 2. Speculation suggests that Ant-Man will either be a member or just make a small appearance in Avengers 2, and his movie will be a spin-off of sorts. This is a good call, considering the character’s fan base is just as tiny as he is. As a huge fan of Ant-Man, I think cryogenically freezing myself until then is an excellent idea.

  • While we’re on Avengers stuff, Ms. Marvel might be in Avengers 2! Who’s that? Well, her name is Carol Danvers, and she was a pilot that got involved with a character named Captain Marvel (not to be confused with Shazam), got energy powers of her own, and has been an essential member of the Avengers for quite a few years now. This is great news because for one thing, it will further tie In the space aspect of the Marvel Universe, as well as adding a female member to a group lacking in ladies. Ruth Wilson and Emily Blunt have been rumored for the role.

  • With more Marvel Cinematic Universe stuff, let’s talk about the SHIELD TV show. NYCC was happening just a week ago, and there they made a confirmation that heavily impacts the MCU. Guess who's back! Agent Phil motherf***ing Coulson! Say what? But how? He died in The Avengers, so was the Coulson in that movie a LMD? We'll see about that. As far as what's been said, the SHIELD show doesn’t look like it’s a prequel, so maybe we will get some news about the show’s chronology in the MCU soon.

  • On the Fox Marvel movie news front, Matthew Vaughn will not be returning to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past, the sequel to X-Men: First Class. Sad news. He will still be involved as a producer though, and the rumor at this time is that Bryan Singer, who directed X-Men and X2: X-Men United, will take over the directing duties. Vaughn will go on to direct a movie called Secret Service, where he will again collaborate with Kick-Ass writer and Fox's Joss Whedon, Mark Millar.

  • Speaking of X-Men, The Wolverine will not be a prequel or a sequel to the craptastic Origins movie. In fact, it will be a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand, the equally craptastic movie that killed Cyclops, Professor X, the Phoenix, and featured way too many mutants. My personal guess is that this film will indeed allude to things that will be happening in Days of Future Past, which would make sense, considering that Wolverine was a main character in the book of which the film is going to be based on.

  • What about DC? Well, here’s a big one: The Justice League is being said to film in 2013 for a 2015 release… That’s a familiar year… Oh, wait! It’s the same year as Avengers 2. What? What?! WHAT?! I don't know. I'll believe it when I see official confirmation, but we'll see. 2015 is the year for comic books, apparently.

  • In non-comic book, but still superhero movie news, Chronicle 2 news have surfaced. A man named Max Landis wrote a script for the sequel. Fox reportedly doesn't like it because it's a continuation of the first movie… which is what a sequel is supposed to be… Apparently, they want a different movie altogether, but with a similar premise of the first Chronicle. That makes absolutely no sense. Either they want a sequel or not. What’s the big deal, Fox?

  • And on the final bit of, oddly enough, still comic news, is about the Peanuts. That’s right. Charlie Brown and Snoopy. Oh, boy... They want to make a movie. Charles Schultz, the guy who created the Peanuts? Well his sons wrote the script for the movie that’s coming soon. They claim that they have "the technology ready" for this. The hell does that mean? Do they want a 3D movie? A motion-captured movie? What? No, wait, it gets worse: There are also Family Circus and Heathcliff (you know, the Garfield wannabe?) movies in the works as well. Please. Stop. For the children’s sake.

And that’s all she (or, in this case, he) wrote! What do you think about all the "Avengers 2" and beyond stuff? Does "The Wolverine" look more appealing now that we know its place in the X-Men timeline? Do you think "The Justice League" will be ready to battle "The Avengers" by 2015? And what about the terrible comic strip stuff? Do you appreciate any of that? Thanks for reading, RC signing off.
