TM Movie News: Suicide Squad, Bond, Casey Jones... Play-Doh.

- by Steve Garcia, 6 April 2015

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Disney movies galore! A superhero smorgasbord! Also, Play-Doh, ghosts, and James Bond. What time is it?! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Picture

Mulan:

  • Let’s get down to business! After Cinderella rocked the box-office ball, Disney is wasting no time pumping out the live-action retellings of their classic animated films. Mulan is the latest title on the ever-growing list, and the new adaptation has found a pair of producers in Chris Bender and J. C. Spink (We’re the Millers). Other live-action Disney films on the horizon include Beauty and the Beast, Alice and Wonderland 2, The Jungle Book, Pete’s Dragon, Dumbo, and the recently announced Winnie the Pooh.

Play-Doh:

  • Play-Doh is getting a movie! Yes, the clay that hardens if you leave it out too long. No, this is not a belated April Fool’s joke. Paul Feig (Bridesmaids) will apparently be directing the upcoming film for Fox, and you know what? Bring it on. If Transformers, LEGO, Barbie, Angry Birds, Battleship, and Ouija can all be movies, then surely a Play-Doh movie can be a thing too! And Feig, (who is also going to direct a new Ghostbusters film in 2016, mind you) is in charge of it, we might be seeing the best thing since The LEGO Movie. Do the Doh. (Is that the tagline? I hope that’s the tagline.)

Suicide Squad:

  • The Squad just got bigger! Actor Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Thor: The Dark World) has apparently just signed on to play the criminal Killer Croc in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. Most famously known as a Batman villain, Croc could undoubtedly serve as the team’s muscle next to the likes of Joker, Harley Quinn, and Deadshot. My only question here is why bother doing Suicide Squad when you’re already playing with some of Arkham Asylum’s greatest prisoners? Couldn’t we just get a Sinister Six movie, but with Batman rogues? ...No? Ok, I’ll shut up now.
  • Scott Eastwood (Fury) has also signed up for a secret Suicide Squad role! While nothing is set in stone, many believe that he will be playing Steve Trevor, who is most famously known as Wonder Woman’s love interest in the comic books. Being that Suicide Squad will definitely be housing Batman villains such as Joker and Harley Quinn and possibly be housing Superman nemesis Lex Luthor in a small part, it would make sense to twist continuity even tighter with a Wonder Woman character. Suicide Squad is slated for August 5, 2016!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2:

  • Green Arrow just added a cricket bat to his arsenal! “Arrow” actor Stephen Amell will be playing Casey Jones in the upcoming sequel to 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Here’s what the actor said regarding the announcement:
  • "Obviously, the similarities are right there on the surface, he’s a vigilante. But, if the audition process and the script are any indication the character is going to be fundamentally different. As a matter of fact, it is almost like the character of Casey Jones – at least in this iteration of Ninja Turtles – is almost like the Oliver Queen people know from the older comic books. As much as I enjoy playing Oliver Queen it is very important to me to stretch out a little bit. And believe me, I know I’m playing another vigilante. I know this! You’re going to have to trust me when I say that not only is Casey Jones different from Oliver Queen, but filming a big feature film is really different than filming a television show.”
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is coming to theaters on June 3, 2016.

Winnie the Pooh:

  • A double dose of Disney this week, ladies and gentleman! The bear of very little brain is also getting the live-action treatment, as Disney just hired Alex Ross Perry (Listen Up Philip) to write the upcoming film, which will supposedly be about an adult Christopher Robin returning to the Hundred Acre Wood. Pooh Bear is a childhood favorite of mine, so color me biased for wanting nothing more than too see this chubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff make a comeback. Going the live-action route for this property is extremely curious, but if Paddington can earn a 98% on Rotten Tomatoes (seriously, look it up), then there’s not a doubt in my mind that Pooh can do the same. And hey, if the stuffed animal angle isn’t edgy enough, they can always make it about a yellow grizzly bear with a tiny red t-shirt on. Oh bother? #GetBothered.

X-Men: Apocalypse:

  • The X-Men has their Angel! Actor Ben Hardy (EastEnders) has just been cast as thw high-flying Angel in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. This casting announcement was kind of inevitable, as Apocalypse needs his four horsemen, and Angel’s most famous storyline in the comics is his transformation into Death. Director Bryan Singer took to Instagram to post the following piece of concept art:

  • Did he just get captured? Is that ringleader supposed to be Mr. Sinister? Where’s the Stan Lee cameo?! X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Bambi:

  • A triple dose of Disney?! Dwayne The Rock Johnson is BAMBI! LOOK AT IT!

Deadpool:

  • FUCK YOU, SLATER! Deadpool is rated R! LOOK AT IT!

Poltergeist:

  • A new spooky trailer! LOOK AT IT!

Southpaw:

  • Jake Gyllenhaal is slowly becoming one of my favorite actors! LOOK AT IT!

Spectre:

  • James Bond. Do I have to sell this to you people? LOOK AT IT!

And there you have it, my lovely Muties! On a scale of one to chimichanga, how excited are you for Deadpool? Does Popeye need a comeback? What did you think about the Pixels trailer? Let us know what you think! As always, have an excellent week ahead and be good to one another!
