TM Movie News: The FF, Silver Samurai, Annie, MiB4 & more

- by Steve Garcia, 6 May 2013

Fantastic Four cast catching eyes? A new Crow has risen?? Star Wars and MIB 4 news?! Let’s talk about movies.

Picture

Annie:

In the Will Smith produced Annie remake, hot actor Jamie Foxx has signed on to play the lead character’s adoptive father: Daddy Warbucks. Starring the Oscar nominated Quvenzhané Wallis, this film is slated for a 2014 release.

  • Steve Says: Ya know, with the huge success of Les Miserables, I wouldn’t be shocked if this was the beginning of a musical explosion in the movie scene. But why Annie? No clue, folks. Does anybody want this? (I should make that a recurring segment…)

The Avengers 2:

At the premiere for Iron Man 3, Avengers director Joss Whedon teased about two new possible members for earth’s mightiest heroes, referring to them as “a brother/sister act.” Could this mean audiences will be seeing Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch?

  • Steve Says: AH! I hope this is true! But let’s not get our hopes up too high, folks. In the early script for the first Avengers, Wasp was gonna be in it, but was replaced with Black Widow. Anything could happen between now and 2015, so let’s just see how it goes. But why those two? My theory: Marvel’s trolling the hell out of DC. First they’re getting Thanos to rival Darkseid, and now Quicksilver to rival Flash. But hey, what do I know? Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are awesome!

Black Panther:

According to some sources, actor Chadwick Boseman (42) has been on the top of Marvel Studios’s list for playing the Black Panther, which has since expanded since actor Morris Chestnut dropped the ball on Twitter a few weeks ago.

  • Steve Says: I haven’t seen 42, but from what I understand, this dude’s a potential Oscar winner. Marvel has a knack for hiring “known, but just unknown enough” actors to star in their films, with Thor as a perfect example (both Hemsworth and Hiddleston). Personally, I think he’s an excellent choice, and I hope he gets the part.

The Crow Reboot:

Actor Luke Evans has officially signed on to play the Crow in the new rebooted franchise. A long list of potential actors, including Bradley Cooper and Tom Hiddleston, Evans is known for his roles in recent films such as The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, The Raven, and Disney’s The Three Musketeers.

  • Steve Says: Cool. Not sure why this movie’s being made, but I liked the first Crow. Good for him.

Fantastic Four:

Chronicle actor Michael B. Jordan is reportedly in the running to portray the Human Torch in the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot. This film is slated for a spring 2015 release.

  • Steve Says: Man, the internet’s been crazy about this one. Personally? I think he’s a good actor—one of the best things about Chronicle, as a matter of fact. But that’s not the issue as far as everyone’s concerned. Bottom line for me is that I don’t care about race changes as long as it doesn’t take anything away from who the core character is. That being said, the actress they’re looking at for Invisible Woman, Torch’s sister, is white. So does that mean Johnny’s adopted now? Foster brother? Half brother? I think you see what I’m getting at. Basically, I don’t care if Jordan gets the part (truth told, I think he’d be great), but if that means they’re going to take all these liberties that change who the core character is, then I’m not cool with that. And even further more? I think it’s all BS anyway. This exact same thing happened with Captain America and Spider-Man. This’ll blow over, trust me.

Men in Black 4:

Sony has officially announced that a fourth installment to the Men In Black franchise is happening. The screenplay will be written by Oren Uziel, who is also currently penning the screenplay for the upcoming 21 Jump Street sequel. No release date has been confirmed.

  • Steve Says: Is this the one where they pass the mantle onto different agents? Because if that’s not what this one’s about, I’m not interested… Seriously, it’s a big world filled with potential expansion. There’s so much to do!

Star Wars: Episode VII:

While J.J. Abrams is perhaps the most secretive filmmaker in Hollywood, he hinted that legendary conductor John Williams may possibly return to score the next film in the saga.

  • Steve Says: JOHN WILLIAMS! He gave Superman, Jaws, and Indiana Jones a theme song. His Star Wars is perhaps the most iconic movie theme in history… AND HE’S BACK! BE HAPPY! HAPPY NEWS!

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

The Bling Ring:

And that’s that! What’s your stance on this Fantastic Four thing? Are you excited about the movies we didn’t ask for featuring Annie, the Crow, and Bruce Willis? What about Scarlet Witch, Quicksilver, and Black Panther? And oh, lord what about the possible triumphant return of John Williams! Until next time, righteous readers. Be good to one another!
