- by Steve Garcia, 26 July 2016

Welcome to a special SDCC edition of Movie News! Here you can find all the best trailers to come out of this years San Diego Comic Con, all in one convenient place!

Picture

Black Panther:

  • While SDCC didn’t reveal a whole lot of info on the upcoming Marvel Studios film, they did unleash a pretty new logo (scroll down for the logos!) and the official cast. Michael B. Jordan will play Erik Killmonger, a villainous character hellbent on overthrowing the Wakandan throne. Lupita Nyong’o has been revealed to be Nakia, a love interest for Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther. Danai Gurira (Michone from The Walking Dead) will play Okoye, a warrior and a friend to Nakia. Production will begin early 2017.

Captain Marvel:

  • After a long time of speculation, it was officially confirmed at SDCC that Captain Marvel will officially be played by Academy Award winner Brie Larson! Along with a shiny new logo, fans will be able to catch the film on March 8, 2019!

Doctor Strange:

  • The doctor is in and it’s trippy as hell! Take a look at these SDCC goodies:
  • Marvel’s Doctor Strange follows the story of the talented neurosurgeon Doctor Stephen Strange who, after a tragic car accident, must put ego aside and learn the secrets of a hidden world of mysticism and alternate dimensions. Based in New York City’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange must act as an intermediary between the real world and what lies beyond, utilizing a vast array of metaphysical abilities and artifacts to protect the Marvel cinematic universe.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2:

  • Lots was revealed this weekend about the next Guardians of the Galaxy, but perhaps the biggest bit of information was that Kurt Russell will be playing Star-Lord’s father: Ego the Living Planet. How does a planet conceive a child? How will it tie in to the big Infinity War down the road? What does that mean for Star-Lord’s potential? All of these questions and more will be answered on May 5, 2017. In the meantime, check out the official synopsis and logo:
  • Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Justice League:

  • After last month’s set visits, it appeared that WB may have taken the criticism of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice to heart. They released a trailer and photo of the official lineup, complete with humor, self-deprecation, color, daylight, and most importantly, a smiling Superman:

King Arthur: Legend of the Sword:

  • Because we need another King Arthur movie, SDCC presented us with a synopsis and poster for the upcoming film starring Sons of Anarchy’s Charlie Hunnam:
  • Acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie brings his dynamic style to an original King Arthur epic, a sweeping fantasy action adventure starring Charlie Hunnam. Starring with Hunnam are Astrid Bergès-Frisbey, Oscar nominee Djimon Hounsou, Aidan Gillen, Oscar nominee Jude Law, and Eric Bana. Ritchie directs the film from a screenplay by Joby Harold and Guy Ritchie & Lionel Wigram, story by Joby Harold. The film is produced by Oscar winner Akiva Goldsman, Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, Lionel Wigram, Guy Ritchie and Steve Clark-Hall. David Dobkin and Bruce Berman are executive producers. Warner Bros. Pictures presents, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, a Weed Road/Safehouse Pictures Production, a Ritchie/Wigram Production. Slated for release on March 24, 2017, the film will be distributed in North America by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company, and in select territories by Village Roadshow Pictures.

Kong: Skull Island

  • Get ready for some more King Kong! WB released the synopsis, poster, and trailer for the upcoming film that is setting up for an inevitable crossover with Godzilla in a few years. If John Goodman continues to play a scary psychopath for the rest of his career, you can be sure I’ll be there for his films opening night. Here’s the synopsis:
  • Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ “Kong: Skull Island” reimagines the origin of the mythic Kong in a compelling, original adventure from director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. In the film, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.

The LEGO Batman Movie

  • After the complete surprise hit that was The LEGO Movie, it was a no-brainer that we’d get a bunch of sequels and spinoffs. Here are the synopsis, poster, and trailer for their first spinoff—LEGO Batman:
  • In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Spider-Man: Homecoming:

  • While the footage of the upcoming Spider-Man film won’t be going public anytime soon, it was received with “thunderous applause” and confirmation that it will be a high school film starring a Peter Parker in the tenth grade. Michael Keaton will officially be playing the Vulture, and to accompany that bit of info is this beautiful piece of concept art:

Suicide Squad:

  • Were those last trailers not enough to sell you? Try this one!

Thor: Ragnarok

  • After it was revealed that Hulk was going to co-star in the next Thor installment, rumors were spreading like wildfire over a Planet Hulk spinoff. Finally, those rumors are laid to rest. May I present to you, Gladiator Hulk:

Wonder Woman

  • Warner Bros. Unveiled a whole bunch of footage and details for their upcoming Wonder Woman movie. For starters, here’s the official synopsis:
  • “Wonder Woman” hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.
  • And the poster! Notice the bright colors. Could this be… fun?

Picture

  • And finally, the official trailer. One could only assume that WB is playing up the humor and brighter colors after the negative press that followed Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Personally, this looks like a combination of what I wanted from Captain America: The First Avenger (real, actual war) and the Thor films (an interaction between gods and mortals that isn’t annoying as all hell). It looks fantastic:

And there you have it! Who won SDCC? What was your favorite reveal? Did that Justice League trailer knock your socks off? Let us know! As always, be good to one another!
