Trash Mutant's News Dump: It's Fun to Stay at the Y.M.C.A

- by Ninja Ross, 12 June, 2020

Welcome to Trash Mutant's News Dump! Where we dump upon you this week's hardest hitting news from the garbage pile that is our beloved pop culture!

Movies

New Musical Horror Movie From Disney and Lionel Richie
Disney are producing a new musical horror titled “All Night Long”, inspired by the songs of Lionel Richie. While no story details have been released, it’s easy to assume that it’ll be about a ghost that keeps Lionel Richie up all night. The film will feature many Lionel Richie songs, which our sources say include Running with the Night, Tonight Will be Alright, Night Train, Dance the Night Away, Tonight and Up All Night. We are awaiting confirmation on whether All Night Long will be used.

Warner Bros. And HBO Love Castration
The Looney Tunes have returned to TV with HBO’s new streaming service HBO Max, in the form of new shorts in the style of the classic Warner Bros. Cartoons. But fans are not happy, due to the decision to remove Elmer Fudd’s gun and replace it with a scythe. While originally seeming like quite a silly change, Michael Ruocco, animator on the show, assured us it was just part of HBO’s ongoing love of castration.

Do you guys SERIOUSLY care whether or not Elmer Fudd has a gun in our shorts? You know how many gags we can do with guns? Fairly few. And the best were already done by the old guys. It's limiting. It was never about the gun, it was about Elmer's flawed, challenged masculinity.

Comic Books

Brian Michael Bendis’ Superman Run Coming to an End
While appearing on David Harper's Off Panel podcast, Bendis revealed that he is “heading toward the end of my run on Superman". While later clarifying that the end was quite a while away, he hasn’t mentioned exactly when the run will turn into a walk, or if it’ll also explore ambling, skipping, sauntering or shuffling before it stops.

Image Comics Gunning For Ramirez
Nicolas Petrimaux’s Gunning for Ramirez will be available for the first time in English, released in comic book stores on September 30th. This can only mean that they haven’t found Ramirez yet. I’m not sure what Ramirez has done, or who he is, but the book looks worth the price on his head.

Science

Space Hulk invasion Almost Definite, Suggest Scientists
For the first time, a team of astronomers from the University of Wisconsin-Madison have been able to observe the Milky Way’s bath farts, known as Fermi Bubbles. The most dangerous part about these galaxy toots is actually the gamma radiation they spew. While scary, this is one step closer to being able to defend ourselves from intergalactic butt burp hulks.

Unexpected Uncertainty Leads to Increased Paranoia, New Study Shows
"Historically in times of upheaval, such as the great fire of ancient Rome in 64 C.E. or the 9/11 terrorist attacks, paranoia and conspiratorial thinking increased”, says Philip Corlett of Yale, who I believe was outside my house last night. A paper suggests that this is due to a “learned mechanism” that is “triggered” by “uncertainty”. You can “read” more about the study “here”. However, I don't suggest it, since they'll be monitoring you.

Video Games

New Resident Evil game Announced
Resident Evil 8, also known as Resident Evil Village, was announced this week during Sony’s PS5 event. While it’s unclear how the Village People will factor into the story, the trailer does seem to show what appears to be brief flashes of grittier rebooted versions of the cowboy and Native American guy looking extremely threatening, showing perhaps conflict within the band.

Everyone Has Already Forgotten Sony’s Terrifying Microbot Demonstration
The PlayStation 5 event showed off some very impressive games, besides Resident Evil 8, but this seems to have been a way for Sony to distract us from the new hardware itself. The reveal video for the actual PS5 begins with a malevolent swarm of purple microbots, shifting like a school of fish or birds showing off with nifty air dancing. No explanation so far as to why the consoles contain these sinister swarms and experts have been suspiciously quiet.

That concludes this week's News Dump. If you have any thoughts, go ahead and dump it down in the comments!
