AUDIOMUTANT: Run The Jewels "Get It", Fort Fairfield & more
So, here’s something new. We’ve been doing album reviews, the occasional music article and some interviews with musicians, but there's more cool music stuff that we'd like to mention. Enter AUDIOMUTANT. This is the where we might talk about some upcoming music we're interested in, feature videos, very short reviews, talk about older music, whatever whatever. And I'll be your host. The formula will work itself out as we go, and if it works out, this will become a recurring feature.
That's the beautiful banner, and now let's get right into the thick of things. SINGLE: RUN THE JEWELS (EL-P & KILLER MIKE) - "GET IT"
El-P & Killer Mike are RUN THE JEWELS and they got a FREE album on the way, to be released digitally, and physically on Fool's Gold Records this June. "Get It" is the first single from the album and it's some heavy, raw stuff (free to download!). We also heard the "Banana Clipper" snippet a while ago, and the two songs make the album seem really damn promising. Both of their records from last year were stellar, and El-P, who's often at his best when he has another emcee to rhyme with, fits perfectly with Killer Mike. Looking forward to June!
REVIEW: FORT FAIRFIELD - "PRENZLAUER BERG" We got this album submitted to us a while ago. I can't say that I (or the other guys) listen to a lot of instrumental electronica type of stuff in this vein, so I was sitting on this for a while, thinking what to do with it. A while later I gave it a second listen, and thought "hey, this is quite nice" when I was reminded about the short time I spent last year in Berlin, living in a super cheap hotel in Prenzlauer Berg and it made me all nostalgic. So, points for brainwashing me!
Fort Fairfield is two brothers from Sweden, by the name of Lück, and "Prenzlauer Berg" is their second album. It's a nice, smooth type of sound, a good soundtrack to chill out to and have some quality time. It's also very Berlin-y and I could easily imagine myself hanging around Prenzlauer Berg, looking for a place to sit down, relax and eat my wurst with this album playing in the background. Below is a track called "This is Hisingen" and you can listen to the whole album streaming here. The record is out now on Acustronica and can be downloaded for free until May 16th, so check it out. UPCOMING: BIG HUGE TRUCK album
VIDEO: BEASTIE BOYS - "A YEAR AND A DAY" (BY JAMES CURRAN) One year ago, Adam "MCA" Yauch of Beastie Boys passed away. The below video is a tribute to MCA and the Beastie Boys, created by James Curran of SlimJim Studios. The video is set to "A Year and a Day", MCA's solo from "Paul's Boutique". The B-Boy Bouillabaisse track is a fitting choice, being the first song showing the changes Yauch would go through. Each set of graphics in the video represents a different B-Boys song, so get deciphering. Great tribute and a great celebration of the band's work!
A Year and a Day from James Curran on Vimeo. That concludes the first, rapid fast installment of Señor Editor's AUDIOMUTANT! Leave your thoughts below and we'll return to AM in the future! |
