Best Looking Games of E3 2014
E3! Man, it feels like it’s only been a year since we last had one of these annual events... Pretty crazy! But, since it’s here again, let’s have a look at some of the most super awesomest games to come out of this year’s E3. In no particular order!!!
BATMAN: ARKHAM KNIGHT IT’S
BATMAN, GUYS!!! BATMAN! Of course this game’s going to be on pretty much all
“Best of E3” lists. Not just because it’s Batman, either; Rocksteady have
created an excellent series here and Arkham Knight is the insane looking
conclusion.
The E3 Gameplay trailer gave us a look at the gliding, the Batmobile and some combat. The gliding and combat do look amazing, sure, but it’s the Batmobile that’s got everyone excited. It’s freaking cool. Not only that, but Scarecrow’s back. It’s nice to see this guy used as a major villain, rather than a minor one or, in the case of Batman Begins, the butt of the joke. But, as you’ve probably heard, the titular knight is actually a brand new character, created by Rocksteady. So, it’ll be nice to see how everything works out. FAR CRY 4 It’s
like Far Cry 3, but with snow! What more can you ask for?
Far Cry 3 was actually my number one game of last year, purely because of its excellent gameplay. There was plenty to do in the world, the controls were clean and easy and everything about it was pure fun. Far Cry 4 looks to be the same but more. You’ve got some new tools, new animals, new enemy types and the ability to shoot and drive at the same time (something left out of previous games, oddly). It looks to be even more fun than Far Cry 3, which is freaking fragging awesome. ALIEN: ISOLATION Alien
games seriously suck. I don’t think I’ve ever played one that’s anything more
than “Meeehhhhhhhh.” Alien: Colonial
Marines promised as an intense experience to rival David Cameron’s Aliens, but
what we got was a terrible mess that the majority of gamers would rather burn
than play.
Alien Isolation, however, promises to be more like the original (And superior, in my opinion) Riddley Scott movie. It looks be more horrifying than any Alien game so far. In this game, you play as Ripley’s daughter, searching for her mother. She finds herself on an abandoned ship along with a single Xenomorph. That’s right! One! And, according to developers, the encounters are entirely random. So it’s possible you may never come across it. You could spend the whole game panty pooping FOR NO REASON. God, I’m all excited. This could all be empty promises, similar to Colonial Marines, but I have a feeling Sega want to avoid more of the same embarrassment. WITCHER 3 The
Witcher series is all kinds of awesome, so it’s definitely nice to see more of
the upcoming Witcher 3. Originally based on the equally superb books by Andrzej
Sapkowski, they follow a monster hunter by the name of Geralt as he... hunts
monsters. Pretty simple!
Of course, not all monsters are big, hideous freaks and that’s the point; The Witcher is slightly more complex, for the most part. The third instalment looks to bring back the best parts of the previous game, including the exciting gameplay and use of Signs. The world itself looks incredible, with a lot more life than the last two games. DRAGON AGE: INQUISITION YOU
CAN PLAY AS A QUNARI!!! If that doesn’t excite you, you’re stupid and ugly and
you smell and I don’t want to talk to you.
Dragon Age 2 took a lot of abuse from fans, mostly due to the fact that they used the same basic dungeons over and over again, plus the lack of impact player decisions had on the story. Bioware seem to have taken a lot of these criticisms to heart, putting a lot more time into development. They say this game will feature the very best gameplay elements from the previous two, and then some! Hopefully, these aren’t empty promises. I liked Dragon Age 2, though, so I’m excited regardless. THE ORDER: 1886 The
original reveal trailer seemed pretty darn mysterious; all we knew was that it
would have guns, steampunk elements and some kind of werewolf monsters. I was
already sold.
Now, however, we have gameplay! And it seems to have guns, steampunk elements and werewolf monsters. Woohoo! So far, it seems to live up to what it promises. Essentially, this game is Sony’s answer to Gears of War. Bit late, considering Gears of War came out at the start of the last generation of consoles, but it’s still looking mighty fine. It looks like a heck of a lot of fun, which is the least you can ask from a third person shooter. If it’s even half as good as Gears of War, it’s going to be worth playing. ABE'S ODYSSEY NEW N TASTY Everyone’s favourite Mudoken is back! It’s not a sequel, which would have been ideal, but it is a remake of the original Abe’s Odyssey. And it’s a very sexy looking remake.
What makes Oddworld Inhabitants’ games so fantastic isn’t so much the gameplay, but the environment and characters. They’re incredibly well designed and this remake seems to stay true to everything that made the original so much fun. It’s pretty much just the original Abe’s Odyssey but with better graphics. It’s the best kind of remake. And, hopefully, this could mean more games from Oddworld Inhabitants in the future. And there you have it! The best looking games of E3 2014! According to me, anyway. I mean, you might have your own favourites. You’re welcome to let us know what they are in the comments below, but I already know you’re incorrect. |
