Music Review: "Patience" by Itamar
Some bands make it big with some cruddy half-baked, auto tuned... thing. Some bands make it big with some genuinely great work and deserve all the admiration they get. Some bands fail to get the recognition they deserve, however. Itamar is one of those bands. They’re a British indie
pop band that I’ve only heard bits from over the last couple of years or so.
They haven’t released an album yet, and have only recently found the funding the
record one.
Their debut album is due out next month but, as of right now, they only have four songs on their Facebook music application. On the bright side, all four songs are freaking fantastic. The best of which is their latest single “Patience,” which, as luck would have it, I’m here to review! Click "Play" below! The single opens with a bit of synth before a few plucks of a guitar and drums hit. It’s a quiet, almost forgettable opening in some ways. Then come the vocals, which immediately elevate the song beyond the opening. So it’s a fairly simple opening with nothing that immediately grabbed me. But the song kicks in a bit further down the line, with a slightly more upbeat sound. The rhythm guitar kicks in, giving it a fantastic beat that complements the percussion. The vocals become uplifting and a lot stronger than you’d expect from the intro. It’s at this point that you can appreciate the intro a heck of a lot more. What I thought was kind of boring and slow became necessary to make the whole song work. With a second listen, the song grabs you straight away, since you’re anticipating the rest of the song. It continues in that vein, occasionally broken up with softer moments reminiscent of the opening, breaking up the more energetic parts of the song. It all builds up to a climax that has everything working together nicely, before fading out with guitar and synth. The vocals here are very similar to that of The Smiths, which is strange because I actually don’t like The Smiths... It’s like The Smiths without so much monotone droney whining. In terms of overall sound, though, the band reminds me more of a mix between David Bowie and The Red Hot Chilli Peppers’ last few releases. The song is definitely worth your time, folks. It may be best to give it a couple of listens to see what it really has to offer, but it’s worth it. And look out for their album, out in February! And you can always find their other songs on Soundcloud and their Facebook. You can also follow the band on Twitter. You can pick it up on the iTunes presale. It’ll be available at the usual digital places on the 27th of January. So what do you think? Does the single sell you on Itamar? Are you looking forward to the album? Sound off below! |
