Stealth-Off: Agent 47 Vs Corvo
A fight of badassedness! Two assassins fighting to the death! Or, more accurately, two assassins being judged by me. And you better believe I’m gonna judge them all up in their faces. In one corner we have Agent 47 from the "Hitman" franchise! In the other corner we have Corvo from 2012's smash hit, "Dishonored"!
Both 47 and Corvo are assassins in a video game world and both are VERY good at their jobs. Both are ice cooooool, both are skilled and both do whatever it takes to kill a target. But which one is better? Which one is the definition of awesome? Let’s take a look and see who does what better. ORIGINS Agent 47 is a “class one” clone. Basically, a super human. He was bred to do nothing but kill and that is what our bald little Hitman has been doing for nearly all of his life. Of course, it’s not as simple as that. Betrayal from his agency and fellow clones, as well as an attack of conscience, leads him to question his purpose in life. Even to go as far as take time off to become Catholic. Minus the molestation, obviously. He rakes leaves. Corvo, on the other hand, started out his assassin’s career when the Empress he was supposed to be protecting was killed on his watch. Her daughter was then abducted, leaving Corvo to be blamed for everything. After being rescued by a rebel group of loyalists, he’s sent off to assassinate key political figures in order to rescue the daughter and put her on the throne. Corvo is very new, especially compared to 47 who has four games, a novel and a new game out next month. But his origin story is (despite being set in a steam punk world) a little more believable and more interesting. But clones are pretty cool. Come on! Bald clones! You’re right, though: this round goes to Corvo for the better set up and story. SKILLS Corvo has teleporting powers! He can ‘port from rooftop to rooftop, helping him get around his world at ease. 47 can walk and run! Ooh and he can climb a little bit. Not much, though. If this was based on travelling alone, Corvo would win. But this is skills in general. While 47 can only do a little bit more than a man at the top of his game, he utilizes disguises and is an expert in using whatever is available to kill his target. You can push people down stairs, blow up things, drop pianos on heads, slit throats, strangle, shoot, punch, poison and so much more! Corvo, however, can only do so much. Stabbing and pushing are pretty much his limits with rats being a special kill. Sure, killing people with a swarm of rats is cool but Agent 47 wins this one for his variety. OUTFIT Time to get sassy, people! Judging clothes! Mhm! 47 models a delightful black suite, white shirt and a shocking red tie [That does kinda sound like somebody we know... - Ed.]. Every item of his attire compliments each other and even when he’s dressed as a clown or a pool boy, he just works it! You go, girl! Plus, he accessorises with personalised, modified guns that sure do pack a wallop! But Corvo has his freaking super cool mask! He could be naked and that mask would save his coolness. I mean, look at it! So complex and awesome. Just look at it! Yup, this one goes to Corvo for his mask alone. PERSONALITY Corvo doesn’t say much. Not having a voice actor sort of ruins speech for him. So he’s a silent protagonist! And this works for a lot of characters (Gordon Freeman, for example!) but it doesn’t help build a great personality like a well chosen voice actor can. 47 is cold, calculating and a little bit evil. But what really helps is the voice of David Beatson. He provides all of the personality traits you’d expect of a cloned assassin. But, besides that, he manages to create realism for a character with a slightly absurd history. So, David Beateson wins this for Agent 47. Now, let’s tally up the scores! Carry the one, divide by... This is hard. It’s a draw, I think. DRAWWWWWWW! That’s right; both of the assassins represent what’s great about the hired killer characters in video games. They’re something for other assassin characters to aspire to. DRAW?! Great. I guess it's all up to you to decide which one of these guys is cooler, Trash Mutant reader.
