"The Walking Dead" Comic Survivor Speculation!

I love "The Walking Dead." What's not to love? It's been going strong for over a 100 issues. Sure, there were times where it didn't seem to go anywhere new, but since #102 wrapped up the "Something to Fear" story, it seems things are going in a interesting direction. If you're not up to date on the comicbook, don't know about what happened in #100 etc., then I suggest you don't read this article. Since I'm gonna be looking at all the important survivors and trying to specify when they will meet their demise! Morbid! Let's start the speculations!

Now, before I start, I wanna say I won't include every minor character that shows up every now and then but doesn't play any major role in the series yet. There's plenty of folks in the Alexandria safe-zone, like Aaron and Eric, Olivia, Holly etc., who do play some role, but we haven't seen that much of them doing anything very important and so, I don't really care about if they live or die very much. They're not exactly very established yet. Right? Right!

Only the most important/prominent survivors are gonna be listed, and I'll try to guess who will stay alive and for how long. It might be fun (or humiliating, if it turns out I was completely wrong about everybody) to see how wrong or right I was, in the future!

Fun for me, at least.

RICK GRIMES

Our hero! Rick has been around from the beginning and he's no doubt the main character in the Walking Dead universe. While Kirkman made it clear that Rick won't be around forever and he's not quite "untouchable", I think it's pretty safe to say that he will remain alive for at least the next... 80 issues? I mean he's been through a lot, and things aren't looking that good for him now, but he's been through some terrible things a lot already. At least he's not still "talking" on the phone with his dead wife. So I think he will be...

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE (Those are all my super rough estimates): #200. C'mon, this is comics. You don't kill your protagonist before you get to a round anniversary issue!

CARL GRIMES

Who doesn't love Carl? Rick's son has had one hell of a childhood so far. When he got shot in the head I thought he was dead for sure (Charlie Adlard kinda made it look way more drastic in that picture), but no, he only lost an eye and now has a hole in his head. While Kirkman mentioned that Rick won't be around forever, I think it's a safe bet that Carl will be with us until the very end. Well okay, "safe bet" may not be the best way to describe it, since things are pretty grim in this zombie infested world, but if Rick eventually dies, I think Carl is gonna be the main focus.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: Like...#250? How long will this series run, anyway? I think Carl will make it to the end, whenever that is.

ANDREA

Does she even have a last name? Please, Robert Kirkman, don't kill Andrea! Andrea is badass. Like the Grimes family, she's been around since #2 and went from being a scared lady that looked up to ol' Dale for help, to being a scarred, sharp-shooting badass that's probably my favorite character in the comic. Andrea is super important to the survivors. But then again, so was Glenn. I don't see her getting killed any time soon. She may leave the group for a while for some reason and reconnect with them later, but I think Andrea has some time left on the book.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: If she dies then it's gonna be a big deal. Maybe even bigger than Glenn. So she lives at least until the next milestone: #150 or #200.

MAGGIE GREENE

I like Maggie (and I really like her in the tv show!), but I don't think she has a lot going for her in terms of survival skills. She's been mostly sitting around the house, watching after Sophia and waiting for Glenn to return. They all wanted to move to the Hilltop, but as we all know, Glenn didn't make it. Maggie loves Sophia, though, and is now pregnant. After all the stuff she's been through, that may make her develop some stronger survival skills and really fight for the safety of both her kids; the one she's carrying and the "adopted" Sophia.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #130. That's almost three years from now. Maybe I'm being too optimistic for her? Maybe Kirkman is a real sadistic bastard and I'll be eating my words in a month or two? Who knows.

SOPHIA

Or as the tv show's Daryl used to say: "SOPHIYAA!!" She lost both her parents. Now she's lost her "new" dad. She's Carl's "girlfriend" and Carl apparently cares for her somewhat, but who knows how it will end. She might die, just so Kirkman can push Carl even further into "hardened kid badass" territory. She's been around since #2, but she didn't really play any important part in many, many months. Eh.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #115? I think she may have less time left than Maggie, the way this series works.

MICHONNE

That lady has a lot of fans. For the longest time, she's played the role of Rick's lead assassin, and the person he'd go to when he wants someone dead. She's been through more than a lot of the other survivors, but now it seems that she's tired of being the crew's go-to killer. Is this some sort of hint to her future? Glenn wanted to just take it easy and focus on his family and he ended up with his brains beaten to a pulp. I wanna say she still has some time on the series, though.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #125. Yeah, those are more and more wild guesses!

EUGENE PORTER

Seems like he'd be dead by now, but his penis-biting skills saved his life recently. You make those bullets, Eugene! Is his talk about making bullets just another pile of BS? He fooled everyone into thinking he's some scientist who needs to get to Washington. Let's hope he's being honest now. If he does have skills like that, he'd be a very valuable asset.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #110. Even if he does make those bullets, and they somehow help deal with Negan, someone with a skill that could easily make life a whole lot easier for the survivors. It doesn't seem like the creators would want him around for too long and make it too easy.

ROSITA ESPINOSA

Poor Rosita. Abraham dumped you and now you don't seem to be doing anything at all. Eugene likes to say they're together, but it doesn't seem to be making it true in any way. Rosita clinged to the tough guy Abraham, hoping that'd guarantee her survival, but who will protect her now? Rosita might die pretty soon.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #104. Yeah, I don't put a lot of faith in Rosita.

GABRIEL STOKES

The asshole priest, who holed up in his church and left his people outside for dead. And then he tried to turn Douglas, the ex-boss of Alexandria, against Rick and his crew. I don't like this guy. I don't think he has a lot of fans and I think he might switch affiliations real fast if he's offered a safer place to stay. He seems like an awful opportunist, even among all the other zombie apocalypse survivors.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #108. Maybe Negan really dislikes priests!

HEATH

Heath. Heath is a new guy. Not as new as Jesus, but new. He was kind of Alexandria's version of Glenn - the "go to town" guy. Now that Glenn is no more, Heath can be the new Glenn full-time. A person like that is needed on the group, and he also seems to be loyal to Rick. Good job, Heath. Listen to Rick and you might live for a while longer.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #118. He's not featured in the book very much. That kind of leads me to believe he may not be the "new Glenn" for long after all.

JESUS (AKA PAUL MONROE)

Jesus is a pretty new character. We don't know much about him at all. He's kind of a hippie ninja. The way he's been introduced leads me to believe Jesus will become more and more important in the story. I don't know if he will stay with the group (so far it seems like it, since he's helping Rick at the moment) or what his true agenda is, since he kind of seems "to good to be true" most of the time, but I think he's in the clear for now.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #145. Yeah, I'm super specific with this one!

SPENCER MONROE

That's the last of the survivors I'm including here. He's Douglas' son, and he's been hitting on Andrea for a while, hoping the two of them can leave the others and be together. It's unlikely to happen now, since Andrea is with Rick. Andrea isn't too happy with Rick's latest plan, but I doubt that would suddenly make her turn towards the wimpish Spence. Spencer is mostly background, and he made it on the list only because he's been less background than, say, Olivia. Spencer has about the same chances as Rosita, I think.

ALIVE AT LEAST UNTIL ISSUE: #104. Yep.

So that's my far-fetched predictions. They may be totally unlikely, time will tell. What do YOU think? Who's the next major character to bite the dust? Sound off in the comments!
