TM Movie News: Beetlejuice 2, Star Trek 3 & Pee-wee Herman

- by Steve Garcia, 29 December 2014

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Did you know they were making an Angry Birds movie?! Beetlejuice, Pee-wee Herman, and Star Trek?! Stuff happened this week in the land of Hollywood! Sit back and relax, my lovely Muties!  IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Picture

Angry Birds:

  • Sony has bumped the release date for its upcoming Angry Birds film from July 1, 2016 to May 20, 2016. With this new date, it will have no direct competitors for that week, as opposed to their former date, which pitted them against Stephen Spielberg’s The BFG and Warner Bros.’s live-action Tarzan starring Alexander Skarsgard and Margot Robbie. Directed by former animators Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly (Frozen, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), Angry Birds has a star studded cast of Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Peter Dinklage, Keegan-Michael Key, Tony Hale and Kate McKinnon.

Beetlejuice 2:

  • According to Tim Burton, a sequel to the beloved Beetlejuice is “closer than ever.” While touring his newest film Big Eyes, the director stated that a sequel would only be possible if Michael Keaton would return to the striped suit. A script has been written by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), and both Keaton and Winona Ryder have expressed interest in returning to their roles, with the former teasing her return as early as last year with a possible setting of 27 years after the original film took place.

Jobs:

  • Originally reported by Deadline, Universal’s upcoming Steve Jobs biopic has found its leading lady in Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice). She will star opposite Michael Fassbender’s Steve Jobs as Chrisann Brennan, Jobs’s first wife. Directed by Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire) with a script by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network), the film will also star Seth Rogen as Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak. Jobs does not currently have a release date.

Pee-wee Herman:

  • According to a source from The Wrap, the third Pee-wee Herman film is in final negotiations to hit Netflix. Judd Apatow has been attached to produce the upcoming film, and gave an update on the film’s status as recently as last March. Paul Reubens (Pee-wee Herman) has stated that a director is in place, and that production can begin as early as this February.

Star Trek 3:

  • Star Trek 3 has found its director in Fast and the Furious director Justin Lin, according to Deadline. Robert Orci (who was previously set to direct) is still attached as a producer. Because Paramount is adamant for a July 8, 2016 release for the 50th anniversary of the franchise, it can be sure that an official announcement will be made soon with production following immediately after.

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:
