TM Movie News: Frankenstein, Mummy & Wonder Woman!

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Mythics, monsters, marvels, and more this week! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Bride of Frankenstein:

• Universal has been talking up a shared film universe for their famous monsters for a while now, and it appears the wheels have finally begun turning! It appears that Universal is eying a reboot of Bride of Frankenstein, and they want none other than Angelina Jolie in the lead. It is to be produced by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan. The same report also touched on a sequel to Wanted, which was based on a comic book I think. Anyway, it’s a little strange to me that they’re jumping the gun and not doing a reboot of the original Frankenstein first. Either way, adding talent is never a bad thing, and when you consider that Jolie’s Maleficent for Disney brought in over $750 Million, it is at least guaranteed to make bank no matter how good or bad it will turn out.

Fantastic Four 2:
                                                

• In a move that literally everyone saw coming, it appears that Fox will no longer be going forward with a sequel to their 2015 Fantastic Flop. Fant4stic made a disappointing $56 Million domestically on a reported $120 Million budget (which may or may not include things like marketing and distribution). According to their contract with Marvel, Fox has seven years to get another film into production, or the property will revert back to Marvel. Between then,  however, there’s always room for some sort of negotiation between the two companies, but nobody’s holding their breath. Perhaps Fox is waiting to see how Sony’s deal with Spider-Man goes before they make a similar move with Marvel’s first family? It wouldn’t hurt to keep an open mind!​​

The Mummy:
                                                                         

• Back to those Universal Monsters, The Mummy reboot might have just got its leading man! Reported by Variety, Tom Cruise is apparently in talks to star in the lead role in The Mummy, which will kick off the Universal Monsters shared film universe (I’m sure they’ll come up with a better name for it). Alex Kurtzman (People Like Us) is on board to direct. If Cruise is on board, I think it’s safe to say that it’ll be a sure critical success. You can’t argue with an awesome resume like Mission Impossible, Edge of Tomorrow, Jack Reacher, and all that other stuff he’s been in before that. In the meantime, I’m still stuck on if this has anything to do with the Brendan Fraser movies. Where is that guy? He’s due for a comeback!​
