TM Movie News: From "Alien" to Zod, "Zorro" & More!

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Aliens, Apocalyptic Zorro, He-Man, and Superman! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Alien 5:                                                                 

• From an anonymous tip to Bloody Disgusting, it appears that Chappy director Neill Blomkamp’s Alien 5 is still happening, but producer Ridley Scott is insisting to the studio that Prometheus 2 be green lit first. Prometheus 2 is currently slated for a March 4, 2016 release, and it appears that if all remains as planned, Alien 5 will be shooting sometime in 2017. Sigourney Weaver is said to reprise her role as Ellen Ripley. 
  

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice:                

• In the latest Batman v Superman trailer, Michael Shannon’s General Zod was seen in a body bag after the spine-shattering battle in Man of Steel’s finale. Shannon spoke to the folks at Vulture in an interesting interview last week, and dropped this little tidbit on Zod’s role in the upcoming superhero smashdown:
  
• “I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the [Porta Potty] door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, ‘Where’s Shannon? Where the fuck is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, ‘Let me out of here!’ [I was helped by the] craft-service guy, who doesn’t have the best craft service. He was actually paying attention to what was going on. He came over and he opened the door for me. Otherwise I would have gotten fired.”
  
• Flippers, huh? Not very Zod-like. A long time ago in January, ComicBook.com reported a rumor that Jessie Eisenburg’s Lex Luthor will perform multiple experiments on the Kryptonian’s corpse, and will accidentally trigger the “Doomsday genome” causing the origin of the DC Extended Universe’s Doomsday. While Doomsday doesn’t exactly have flippers, something is clearly happening to Zod’s dead body, and I doubt that this is the origin of the Aquaman villain King Shark.
  

Masters of the Universe:                                                     

• The He-Man movie is still happening! Last week, Variety broke the news that Thor: Ragnarok writer Chris Yost has been hired by Sony to do a rewrite of the screenplay. While the film is still in its first baby steps of production, good news is better than no news. Yost has THE POWERRRRRRR. 
  

Zorro Reborn:                                                             

• Ready for a post-apocalyptic Zorro movie? Because that’s a thing that’s happening. “This has been a 15-year journey filled with ups and downs, but it has remained my passion project over the years,” said producer Mark Amin in a recent interview. “Every generation has its own Zorro hero and we’re proud to be able to introduce a new Zorro to this generation.” This take on Zorro has been kicked around for many years at Fox, with X-Men director Bryan Singer being just one of the few names who have had a hand in its long production. Even if nobody’s exactly clamoring for the return of Zorro, you gotta admit that this is a creative take.
