TM Movie News: Hellraiser, Raimi flicks and Superheroes

- by Steve Garcia, 4 November 2013

Where’s that Deadpool movie? Which late 80’s and early 90’s movies are they remaking this week? So many Trailers! I mean, there’s movie news too, but SO MANY TRAILERS! Captain America! Wolverine! Ron Burgandy! Lego! Read ‘em and weep, Trash Muties! It’s Movie News time! EXCLAMATION POINTS!!!

Army of Darkness 2/Evil Dead 2:

  • Halloween might be over, but it’s never a bad time to discuss the Evil Dead franchise! According to co-writer Rodo Sayagues, director Sam Raimi’s main priority is to make a sequel to Army of Darkness. If that wasn’t groovy enough, Sayagues and director Fede Alvarez are still working hard to make a sequel to their Evil Dead reboot, which will (according to numerous rumors) make a crossover with the Raimi series. Rejoice!

Deadpool:

  • Whatever happened to that Deadpool movie, and why aren’t we watching it now?! Fans of the Merc with the Mouth will be happy to hear that the project is still very much alive, and that all the writers, director, and Ryan Reynolds are just waiting on the studio’s green light. In order to do the character justice, they need that R-rating, and even if that may be a risk, the people involved with the project are confident that this movie will not only be made, but it will be a big success. According to Ryan Reynolds himself, they are “presenting it to Fox, as a project with a smaller budget that will have a minimal impact on the studio in order to get the movie made the way it should be.” A movie where everyone involved cares about the source material so much so that they’re willing to sacrifice the budget in order to get the rating the film needs to make it right? I may not be the biggest Deadpool fan on the planet, but this gets me hyped up like nothing else. Get this movie made, Fox!

Hellraiser:

  • Pinhead’s coming back, and Clive Barker himself had lots of stuff to say about it on his Facebook page! Awesome stuff all around! Check it out:
  • "HOT FROM HELL! My friends, I have some news which may be of interest to you. A few weeks ago I had a very productive meeting with Bob Weinstein of Dimension Pictures, in the course of which I pitched a remake of the first HELLRAISER film. The idea of my coming back to the original film and telling the story with a fresh intensity-honoring the structure and the designs from the first incarnation but hopefully creating an even darker and richer film-was attractive to Dimension. Today I have officially been invited to write the script based upon that pitch. What can I tell you about it? Well, it will not be a film awash with CGI. I remain as passionate about the power of practical make-up effects as I was when I wrote and directed the first HELLRAISER. Of course the best make-up in the world loses force if not inhabited by a first-rate actor. I told the Dimension team that in my opinion there could never be a Pinhead without Doug Bradley, and much to my delight Bob Weinstein agreed. So once the papers are signed , I will open a Lemarchand Configuration, dip my quill in its contents and start writing . I promise that there will be nowhere on the Internet where the news of my progress will be more reliable than here, because the only author of these reports will be Your Infernal Correspondent, me. My very best wishes to you all, my friends. -Clive."

Do YOU want him to come back?

Iron Man:

  • While die-hard Iron Man fans may have been disappointed with how the Mandarin was presented, maybe this little nugget will restore their faith! We know that Ben Kingsley is working on a super-secret project with Marvel Studios, but just what the heck can he be doing with them still? According to this juicy little source, this project will be a “one-shot” short (similar to the Agent Coulson shorts and the Peggy Carter short attached to the Iron Man 3 DVD) where we might see the “real” Mandarin after all, and he’s not happy about what went down in the events of latest Iron Man film. Only time will tell if this source is for real, but given how tiny Iron Man’s rogues gallery is, Mandarin is a must-have for a potential sequel! Well… the real one, anyway!

Point Break:

  • Not only are we just learning that Point Break is being remade, but actors Chris Pine (Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness) and Eric Bana (Hulk, Star Trek) are up for the lead role of Johnny Utah! Cinematographer Ericson Core (Daredevil, Fast and the Furious) is set to direct the remake, and production is set to begin at the end of the year. Awesome! (I think)

Star Wars: Episode VII:

  • JJ Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan are taking over the script for the next Star Wars movie! Originally, Michael Arndt (Toy Story 3, Little Miss Sunshine) was attached to screenwriting, and while we don’t know why he’s not anymore, that doesn’t mean this is bad news for us! Abrams has a rich background in writing, including films such as his own Super 8 and Mission Impossible III, and that other guy? Lawrence Kasdan? Dude wrote Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. On the road to being the best Star Wars movie ever? It’s looking that way!

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues:

  • Channel 4 News Team… ASSEMBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! LOOK AT IT!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier:

  • Cap is back, and this looks like it’s gonna beat Iron Man and The Avengers for “best Marvel movie ever!” Black Widow! Nick Fury! Falcon! THE WINTER SOLDIER! LOOK AT IT!

Justice League: War

  • The Justice League’s origin retold in the New 52 animated fashion! Superman! Batman! Wonder Woman! Captain Marvel?! LOOK AT IT!

The Lego Movie:

  • The best movie of next year! ‘Nuff said! LOOK AT IT!

X-Men: Days of Future Past:

  • The X-Men are back, Bryan Singer is back, and that sexy score is back! No Sentinels, but LOOK AT IT ANYWAY!

And there you have it, folks! Are you looking forward to that "Army of Darkness" sequel? What’s your input on that "Hellraiser" remake? How do you feel about the Deadpool movie and how ultra super close it is to getting made? Which trailer was your favorite and why was it "The Lego Movie"’s? Let us know! As always, be good to one another! I’m out!
