TM Movie News: Huge Monsters, Tiny Heroes, FF & more!

- by Steve Garcia, 7 October 2013

The news is picking up! Superheroes! Giant lizards and giant apes! Stuff to look at! Time for this week’s edition of Movie News, boys and girls!

Picture

Amazing Spider-Man 3:

  • Of course we know that Spidey will be back after the second one, but now we know who will be writing it! Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner have officially signed on for number three, which can be potentially good news because these are the guys who wrote Amazing Spider-Man 2. I’m leaning more towards the side of good news because they must have done something to have the studio wanting more. Now we’ll play the waiting game for that announcement on director Marc Webb’s return. Fingers crossed!

Fantastic Four Reboot:

  • Disney may have the Avengers, but Fox still has the X-Men! But this isn’t about the mutants (well… still kind of). This is about that other Marvel property Fox still has their hands on: Fantastic Four! Simon Kinberg, the man who wrote X-Men: Last Stand, co-writer of X-Men: First Class, and solo writer on a Star Wars spinoff that has yet to be named, is on board to fix the FF! Fox has been at this reboot for a little while now, and apparently the script has been drafted over and over again. Can he fix it? Well, he did write X3, so my hopes aren’t particularly high, but I love me some Fantastic Four, so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. Director Josh Trank (Chronicle) is still attached to the project. It’s slated for a March 6, 2015 release.

King Kong Sequel:

  • First Pacific Rim brings in the giant robots and the giant monsters, then Godzilla comes in to (hopefully) make monster movies a force to be reckoned with again, and now King Kong is coming back in an all-new movie! …Well, not really. It’s a sequel to the original 1930’s film, and not the Peter Jackson remake from 2005! Director Neil Marshall, the guy who brought us The Descent and an episode of Game of Thrones is in charge of the project, and it will reportedly be based on the graphic novel Kong: King of Skull Island which was written and illustrated by Joe DeVito. I personally never read it, but this is the summary:

In 1933, American showman Carl Denham returned from a mysterious, hidden island with a priceless treasure. A treasure not gold or jewels, but the island’s barbaric god, a monstrous anthropoid called “Kong.” The savage giant escaped and wreaked havoc among the man-made canyons of Manhattan, but within hours of the giant ape’s death his body – and Carl Denham – disappeared. Twenty-five years later, the son of Carl Denham makes a shocking discovery that leads him back to the site of his father’s greatest adventure and to the answers that will unlock the century’s greatest mystery and history’s greatest miracle. Authorized by the Cooper Estate and based on the original novel that inspired the all-time classic film. This new novel acts as both prequel and sequel to the classic fantasy tale, King Kong. Acclaimed fantasy artist/writer Joe DeVito and top fantasy and science-fiction author Brad Strickland join forcesto make for an interactive visual-narrative storytelling experience unlike any other.

  • So it’s a prequel and a sequel! Sounds pretty awesome, to me. But why bring the King back? Methinks there will be a Kong vs. Godzilla film in our future… But we’ll see!

STUFF YOU SHOULD LOOK AT:

Ant-Man:

  • Edgar Write’s finally finally FINALLY working on that Ant-Man movie with a picture to prove it! LOOK AT IT!

Escape from Tomorrow:

  • A really long time ago I reported about a movie that takes place in Disney World that Disney had no idea that it existed. Well it’s still a thing, and now there’s a trailer for it! It looks… Well, just LOOK AT IT!

Godzilla:

  • Whether it was leaked or released is irrelevant! The new Godzilla trailer is on the web and it looks AWESOME! Please, before the bad men take it away, LOOK AT IT!

(UPDATE: The bad men took it away. Enjoy a screenshot from it)

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug:

  • More singing dwarves and stuff! They walk farther than ever this time! Hobbit fans rejoice! LOOK AT IT!

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit:

  • Captain Kirk is James Bond in a movie that the director or Thor directed! Or something like that… LOOK AT IT!

And there you have it, folks! Does the Fantastic Four tickle your fancy? Will you be first in line for that Hobbit movie? Would you be interested in a King Kong/Godzilla crossover that I’ll totally be right about? What’d you think about that Escape from Tomorrow trailer? And the key takeaway: Ant-Man! Excited? Not? Let us know! As always, be excellent to each other, my righteous readers!
