TM Movie News: Sequels, Giddy Warner Bros, Gosling & more!

SEQUELS! SEQUELS! MORE SEQUELS! New Movie News coming atcha!

The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4:

Sony recently announced that, as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is still in production, they have marked June 10, 2016 and May 2, 2018 for two sequels to the popular franchise.

• Steve Says: I’m ok with this! Looks like we’re getting a new Spidey movie every two years, none of them reboots. As of right now, I’m thinking the Sinister Six is looking pretty darn likely down the road. Celebration, Spider-Fans!

The Avengers 2:

In a recent interview, writer/director Joss Whedon confirmed that Loki will not be making an appearance in the highly anticipated Avengers sequel.

• Steve Says: Good! The Avengers have so many villains to choose from, and Loki will have already made three appearances by then. Give us the Masters of Evil!
  

Man of Steel 2:

With the huge financial success of Man of Steel’s opening weekend, Warner Bros. has fast tracked a sequel, slated for 2014. Zack Snyder and David Goyer will return directing and writing, respectively.

• Steve Says:  Alright... I think WB is starting to get a little giddy, here. A sequel sounds great, but if they want it next year, I think they’re out of their minds. While I believe that the ending to Man of Steel totally sets up for what is sure to be an epic sequel, these things take time. It took three years to jump from Batman Begins to The Dark Knight—Three years of writing, planning, casting, filming, editing, etc. If WB thinks that in 18 months we’re getting the Dark Knight of Superman movies, I think they’re damned fools. Take a chill pill, WB.

Marvel Cinematic Universe:

Marvel/Disney has reserved two dates, one for 2016 and the other for 2017, for two untitled Marvel projects. While it is still unknown as to who those spots are reserved for, Dr. Strange and Black Panther seem to be the top of the speculative list.

• Steve Says: Very, very interesting. Phase Three is upon us, folks! While I personally don’t think these will be sequels (like Cap 3 or Thor 3), I agree with the speculators that these are when Dr. Strange and Black Panther will shine. Sounds awesome, no doubt, but I also think it’s time for a female superhero movie. Give us Ms. Marvel, Marvel!

Prometheus 2:

Fox Studios and Ridley Scott are officially moving forward to the Prometheus sequel. The script will be penned by Jack Paglen (Transcendence), and there is no official word on whether or not Michael Fassbender or Noomi Rapace will return.

• Steve Says:  I loved Prometheus, and I’m pretty sure I’ll love the sequel. Can’t wait!
