TM Movie News: Snipers, Legends, Doctors and Baywatch

Happy Monday, my lovely Muties! Snipers and bikinis! Reboots and trailers! Sorcerers and Adam Sandler?! Sit back and relax, ladies and germs! IT’S MOVIE NEWS TIME!

Baywatch:                                                           

• BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT! Paramount Pictures is giving the classic 1990’s TV drama a shot at the big screen treatment with Dwayne The Rock Johnson in the leading role! The Hollywood Reporter claimed that We’re the Millers duo Sean Anders and John Morris will be directing the adaptation along with Justin Malen (Bad Teacher 2), who will be rewriting the screenplay. Quickly after the news broke out, Johnson confirmed the news with the following post on Instagram:

Doctor Strange:                                                 

• In disappointing news, Deadline has reported that frontrunner for Marvel’s Doctor Strange Joaquin Phoenix will not be playing the part. As Marvel Studios is known for its dedicated and concrete multiple-film contracts, however, it should not come as a surprise that Phoenix lost interest in the role if he was ever attached at all. Other actors that are apparently in line for Doctor Strange include Tom Hardy, Jared Leto, and Benedict Cumberbatch. While its release date is presently unknown, speculations are high that audiences can expect to see the Sorcerer Supreme on July 8, 2016. 
  

I Am Legend:                                                      

• After a number of failed attempts to bring forth prequels and sequels, it appears that Warner Bros. is now planning to give I Am Legend a complete reboot to kick-off a new franchise. Sources say that an original screenplay entitled “A Garden at the End of the World" by Gary Graham, which has a similar tone and themes to the Will Smith film, will be retooled and rewritten as the potential reboot. 
  

Netflix:                                                                 

• In some potentially exciting news, Netflix and Adam Sandler are teaming up to produce four films exclusive to the streaming service! Love him or hate him, Sandler’s undeniable box office success since his days as a Saturday Night Live cast member in the 1990’s is sure to rake in a plethora of viewers and potentially new subscribers. Here’s what Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos said about the partnership:
  
• “People love Adam's films on Netflix and often watch them again and again. His appeal spans across viewers of all ages -- everybody has a favorite movie, everyone has a favorite line -- not just in the US but all over the world."
